Pakistan summons Afghan envoy over incursion

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

วันอาทิตย์ ที่ 19 มิ.ย. 2554 Islamabad, June 19 (IRNA) – Pakistan on Saturay summoned the Afghan envoy and a strong protest was launched over a recent incursion of militants into its territory from Afghanistan, the Foreign Ministry said.

Militants entered Bajaur tribal region on Thursday from Afghanistan’s northeastern Kunar province and attacked Pakistani villages, killing five people.

“The Afghanistan Charge d’Affaires, Mr. Majnoon Gulab, was summoned to the Foreign Office today. A strong demarche was lodged with him on the incident, which took place at 0420 hours on 16 June 2011 during which 100-150 terrorists crossed the border with Afghanistan and attacked three Pakistani villages in the Bajaur sector,” a Foreign Ministry statement said.

The cross-border incursion resulted in the killing of 5 civilians, including 3 males and 2 females, and one soldier and 3 civilian females were injured, the statement said.

“Serious concern of the Government of Pakistan was conveyed to the Afghan Charge d’Affaires. The Government of Afghanistan was asked to prevent such cross-border incidents from occurring in the future,” it said.

Pakistan's officials say it is the 4th incursion of militants into its territories from Afghanistan in a month. The previous intrusions took place in Upper Dir, South Waziristan and Kurram Agency.

Pakistan also raised the issue with Afghan President Hamid Karzai who travelled to Pakistan on June 10-11 and said it is the responsibility of his government to stop attacks if it happens from Afghan soil.

The Foreign Ministry in a separate statement said that serious concern over a recent air incursion by ISAF/NATO aircraft, that attacked a Pakistani post in a tribal region, has been conveyed to the US Embassy in Islamabad.
A joint inquiry of this incident has also been requested, the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry said that NATO/ISAF aircraft attacked a Pakistan Military Ziarat post in South Mohmand, located 2.5 kilometers away from Pak-Afghan border, inside Pakistani territory. This matter has been taken up with the US/NATO/ISAF on both military and diplomatic tracks, the statement said. Pakistan accuses NATO of airspace violation (AFP)

18 June 2011ISLAMABAD — Pakistan hit out at the United States on Friday over what it said was an incursion into its airspace by a NATO jet that attacked a military post.

The foreign ministry said in a statement the aircraft had attacked the the Ziarat post, 2.5 kilometres (1.5 miles) from the border with Afghanistan in Mohmand tribal region.

“Pakistan’s serious concern over the air incursion has been conveyed to the US embassy in Islamabad,” spokeswoman Tehmina Janjua said.

She said Islamabad had launched an inquiry, adding that the US and NATO were also investigating the incident.

The foreign ministry has not said when the incursion happened or if anyone was wounded or killed.

But a security official said: “At least two foreign fighter jets violated Pakistan’s airspace on Friday and dropped six bombs near the post.”

An intelligence official in the area and a local administration official confirmed the incident and said there were no reports of any deaths.

The Pakistani military often accuses NATO’s ISAF force of violating Pakistan’s airspace in the hunt for Taliban who launch attacks in Afghanistan before fleeing back across the border.

Pakistan temporarily shut the main land route for NATO supplies into Afghanistan last September after officials accused NATO of killing Pakistani troops in another cross-border attack.

The northwest region is being targeted by a record number of US drone strikes, the number of which has doubled in the last year, with more than 100 strikes killing over 670 people, according to an AFP tally.

Fifteen US drone strikes have now been reported in Pakistan’s tribal belt since US commandos found and killed bin Laden in a unilateral airborne raid on the Pakistani garrison city of Abbottabad on May 2.

Relations between Pakistan and the US, wary at the best of times, deteriorated sharply over the raid, which humiliated the Pakistani military and invited allegations of incompetence and complicity.

Pressure tactics by US for Pak military action, nothing else. They knew that PAF not capable of fighting USAF.

Lets see how Pakistan handle this pressure, but sooner or later, PA has to march to NW.

Pakistan expressed “serious concern” to the US embassy and summoned a senior Afghan diplomat over the cross-border attack, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

It said Nato aircraft intruded around 2.5km inside Pakistani territory and attacked a military post.

“A joint inquiry of the incident has also been requested,” it said, without saying when did the incident take place.Local officials said it occurred early on Friday and that a few bombs were dropped but no casualties were reported.

Separately, Pakistan summoned Afghan ambassador in Islamabad Majnoon Gulab to the Foreign Ministry and lodged the protest over the attack by “100-150 terrorists” on three border villages in Bajaur on Thursday.

Several hundred militants crossed from Afghanistan and targeted civilians in the Mamond area of Bajaur, killing five people.

The Afghan diplomat was “summoned to the foreign office today. A strong demarche was lodged with him on the incident, which took place on June 16,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tehmina Janjua said in a statement.

The Afghan diplomat was told that “terrorists crossed the border with Afghanistan and attacked three Pakistani villages in Bajaur”.

She said the diplomat was told of the “serious concern of the government of Pakistan. The government of Afghanistan was asked to prevent such cross-border incidents from occurring in the future.”

Afghan officials had denied that any cross-border attack had taken place and accused Pakistani troops of killing six people in a rocket strike on Wednesday.

It was the third attack reportedly carried out by militants in northwest part of the country this month.—Agencies

can reach their interests
Let's face it - The areas USAF And NATO Usually violate are lawless tribal areas where the Government has no writ at all - Look we are walking on a very thin wire when we protest these drone attacks because you know very well the locals there support terrorists elements.General Kayani was right in his last PR that Tribal should not give hospitality to these elements - This issue cannot be fixed millitarlity - Our tribals needs a lesson and i don't think Armed Forces are so dumb to take down the entire Pakistan just for sake of FATA people ( who by the way don't want Pakistani Government writ in their area in the first place but have no problem with asking Pakistani Government for protection - They should be told that you cant have a cake and eat it too)
