Nato air strike 'kills Afghan family'

A Nato air strike has killed eight members of a family in the eastern Afghan province of Paktia, local officials say.

A provincial spokesman said a couple and their six children died in an air strike on Saturday in the village of Suri Khail, Gurda Saria district.

Nato says it is investigating the reports.

Earlier, the alliance said four of its soldiers had died in separate bomb attacks in Afghanistan on Saturday.

'No connection' with militants
Paktia provincial spokesman Rohullah Samoon told AFP news agency: "It was an air strike conducted by Nato.

"This man [the father] had no connection to the Taliban or any other terrorist group."

A spokesman for the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) said it was aware of the reports and was gathering information.

Nato did not give details of the deaths of its four service members on Saturday, nor reveal the nationalities of the victims.

It is not clear if the four include a British soldier whose death was confirmed by the the UK military on Saturday.

The soldier, from 1st Battalion, The Royal Welsh, had been on patrol in the Nahr-e Saraj region of Helmand province when his vehicle was hit by a bomb.

Earlier this month, Afghan President Hamid Karzai warned that civilian casualties caused by Nato could undermine the strategic partnership agreement he had just signed with the US.

The 10-year accord outlines military and civil ties between the countries after the end of Nato's mission in Afghanistan in 2014.

there are two possibilities, either NATO strike aimed at that certain man who might be a Taliban fighter but his 6 kids with wife also got scored in one go, as usual . Or, there might be misinformation as we know if NATO’s drone target a spot, 1 out of 2 strikes is only found correct, so they might have scored 8 people by mistake this way

but one thing I noticed, NATO’s drones still arent scoring so many numbers this year as they did during last 7-8 years? 2012 would still be called little peaceful for WOT by US

there are few things which we all know but dont want to understand. few things are very logical and we need experience to get it.

that is, when CIA organize drone attacks, they know they are not going to drop bombs on the people having arms on the battlefield. and if they will drop bombs on the Taliban fighters sitting in home then its very logical that they might be having relax with few of their servants, including relatives/ wife/kids/ other family members etc. its true. and US knows that in hunt of 3-4 Taliban fighters, they gotto be prepared to count 10-12 more of those who might be around those Taliban fighters. Don’t they understand that there is a difference between fighting on war front as compare to dropping bombs on the residential areas from sky?

But these drone attacks are in fact intended to give a message to the whole Afghan society that if they will even invite any of the Taliban fighters in any party, the whole of that community will be punished. Don’t we remember how drones have been scoring over 40-50 in one go by dropping bombs on marriage parties of Afghan in past in hunt of just 3-4 militants, just 4-5 years before, how much threats these drones created there? But the worse part about these drone attacks is, the people who drop bombs from sky can’t guarantee on whom they are dropping bombs and those who are killed, the poor Afghani, don’t even know who these Western people are, whats their society etc most of these Afghans are illiterate and get killed by high tech drones for no reasons
