Indian govt does not set oil prices just ridiculous subsidies added to it. The govt is absolutely correct in hiking prices by removing subsidies. Your economy earns taxes from only 6% ,is it, of the base? That is ridiculous and you want more subsidies?

Stop giving subsidized diesel to private diesel cars. That in itself can lower the price of the petrol.
