AKA
China's 'Child Rape Isn't Rape' Law Is Sparking Outrage

you have repeated this how many times - a dozen?

I have refuted the report previously:
1. the survey only concentrated in south China whereas the other parts of China were vastly ignored
2. the sample size was doubtful
3. 60% rape cases are conducted by the victims' partners. that means 40% were scumbag strangers
4. you very seldom/never hear foreigners are jeopardised inside of outside of China

Again we have laws protecting the female folks like Article 360 of Criminal Law

HOW MANY TIMES THAT I HAVE TO REPEAT TELLING YOU THE NONSENSE CREATED BY YOUR SPAMS?!

India's Rape Culture

In the wake of the 2012 Delhi gang rape, every aspect of Indian culture has been found deficient in common sense. India has always been a sleeping giant, and it took the horrific rape of a 23 yr old woman, Nirbhaya, to arouse the country.

And once again we revisit India's shame with the recent Mumbai rape case.

Why rape? Is it mating strategy? Is it natural or pathological? Or is it just the human male psyche?

Indian men do not know how to behave, especially the poor, primitive ones. Measures like better patrolling, harder punishment, stringent laws, and better use of technology like CCTV cameras can only make our streets a bit safer. We cannot keep track of what goes on inside homes regardless of technology. It's all in the mindset of men.

Perhaps its because our society is completely patriarchal. Or perhaps it's the influence of Bollywood, where we have very few strong female leads and a dominant male lead.

Indian women are treated like a sidekick to the male supremacy. They are just a repository for male sperm.

Despite new laws and public protests, wealth and power is all you need to wriggle away with anything. Uproars and sexist comments is what our leaders pass within the parliament, while half the police force is guard dogs for the VIP. We are left in a situation where every single woman is in danger.

Rape is not geographically segregated. It just shows a country's eroding social structure. We may conduct rallies, and silent protests, but to no avail. Perhaps we need vigilantes.

Nirbhaya's story will repeat. Again and again. Why? Because way too many people continue to blame the victim.

And what do the men have to say for themselves? It's the woman that is responsible for everything bad that happens to her they claim. Let's start acting against the horrifying rapes in India. Now.

Every country has rape but in India rape happens every 22 minutes and women are too scared to report them as the police are corrupt to the core. That's the problem in 3rd world countries like India.

LOL, 22 minutes is a claim which has no definite study behind that claim. your country without a free press, a country which fakes every data to save its image, is hardly in a position to talk about other countries stats. and what a disgusting country that actually makes rape laws to protect rapist. The great han is all about protecting pedophiles ....

India's Rape Culture - CoolAge

The sexist idea of women “asking for it” when they wear dresses that are “too shear” or pants “too tight” is alive and well in Beijing, where police recently asked women to cover up on public transportation in order to avoid harassment. An alternative route could have been targeting male harassers on China buses, but that would require social upheaval, or something equally difficult.

Instead, the China Daily reports that the Beijing Police’s micro blog posted the following guidelines for women in China who dare to hop on public transport:

“The guideline, published by the traffic department under the Beijing Public Security Bureau on Monday, says women should not wear minimal clothing, such as mini skirts or hot pants when taking public transportation and should call police promptly if they are sexually harassed.

“Women are advised to not sit on higher levels of buses and to stand on lower stairs, to avoid being the target of inappropriate picture-taking, and they should shelter their bodies with bags, magazines and newspapers.”

Though the whole magazine and newspaper thing might not be the worst idea for female subway-goers in short skirts who want to temporarily cover up, the sentiment that a woman’s clothing should be held responsible for sexual harassment from others is highly disputed and has garnered much criticism.

Jian Yue, a professor of law at Xiamen University who focuses on women’s rights, represents one such critical voice. According to the Shanghiist, he believes that the police’s “guidelines” will not solve the sexual harassment problem and has been thinking up laws on his own to help quell the issue.

Recently, groping, covert pictures, and other equally sleazy forms of harassment have been occurring all too much on Chinese public transit. As of now, those caught taking part in such behaviors are subject to a warning, fine, or up to 15 days in detention.

Meanwhile, this problem occurs in our own backyards, so to speak. Last year, at least 95 sex crimes on several public transit systems in San Francisco were reported by police, according an old New York Times article. These resulted in 40 arrests in 2012, but the problem is certainly an ongoing national one, affecting New York City with an astounding number of public masturbation incidents in the subway every year. Perhaps the news in China will get other nations to think more critically about the harassment women suffer on public transit worldwide

HONG KONG — A gang-rape trial that opened in Beijing on Wednesday accompanied by a blaze of local media attention has become China’s latest legal spectacle to cast attention on the lifestyles, and alleged misdeeds, of the political elite.

One of the five defendants is Li Tianyi, a 17-year-old whose privileged background and past misdeeds have made him the focus of a media and Internet uproar about what many see as the sordid ways of the offspring of the political elite. Mr. Li is the son of celebrity singers for the People’s Liberation Army and ran into legal trouble before the rape charges.

The prosecutors allege that the defendants — Mr. Li, three other minors and a 23-year-old man — took a young woman they had met in a bar in February to a hotel room in Beijing, beat her, forced her to strip and sexually assaulted her, according to a report on the Web site of the newspaper People’s Daily.

Like the recent trial of Bo Xilai, the fallen former politician, the case has become an intensely watched and debated parable about the privileges and limited accountability of the Communist Party’s highborn. And accusations against the woman who says she was raped have stirred discussion about how the Chinese media and courts deal with victims of sexual assault and minors accused of crimes.

“The factor behind why the media and everyone is so interested in this case is that it’s about the so-called ugly officials and ugly rich,” said Lu Pin, who helps run the Media Monitor for Women Network, an advocacy group in Beijing.

“Everyone wants to see them exposed in disgrace, because in the majority of cases nothing is ever revealed,” Ms. Lu said in a telephone interview. “But in fact, opinion can also easily be turned so that this becomes a trial of the victim.”

Chinese news Web sites have devoted special subsites to the case, and they showed pictures of journalists jammed behind police cordons outside the courthouse on Wednesday, although the trial is closed to the public. The defendants, including Mr. Li, answered questions in court about the charges, the official news agency, Xinhua, reported. Mr. Li denied that he had beaten or had had sex with the woman, according to the Web site of The Beijing News. But he also said he was too drunk to know anything, the report said. The trial will continue on Thursday; Chinese courts usually give verdicts about two weeks after a trial ends.

But for Mr. Li’s high profile, the case probably would never have ignited the uproar. His father, Li Shuangjiang, is a highly ranked People’s Liberation Army singer — sometimes, mistakenly, called a general in Chinese news reports — famed for his rousing odes to the party, patriotism and military virtues. The suspect’s mother, Meng Ge, is also a well-known military singer.

The cherub-faced Mr. Li was also dabbling with a musical career, but he won notoriety in 2011, when a BMW he was driving hit another car. He and another teenager stepped out and beat and threatened the couple in the other car. The police later sent him to a labor camp for juvenile offenders, and since then his struggles have been chronicled in the Chinese media much as American entertainment news outlets track the wayward children of Hollywood stars.

“This case caters to the Chinese people’s hatred of officials, the wealthy, and celebrities,” Chen Youxi, a prominent Chinese lawyer, said in an interview with Phoenix television, a broadcaster based in Hong Kong. “Any incident that involves a famous person, a wealthy person or a princeling, public opinion will be naturally inclined to hate them, to attack them.”

China’s courts are run by the Communist Party, but both sides in the case have sought to recruit public opinion to shore up their cases. Ms. Meng accused the manager of the bar where her son met the woman of running a prostitution ring and trying to blackmail her family. A law professor in Beijing suggested that the victim was a prostitute, asserting that she had endured less harm than a “chaste” woman. News reports have said the victim worked as a secretary.

The professor later withdrew the comments and apologized. Ms. Lu, the women’s rights advocate, said the notion that a sex worker was entitled to less protection showed the pressures that women encounter when they file sexual assault charges.

“Behind this is the fact that views about sex in China are particularly unfair to women,” Ms. Lu said. “If you’re a victim and you want to use public opinion to defend your rights, you pay the price through having your moral reputation being torn apart.”
