By the way, this is for people from Calcutta or any place in the west Bengal. I have not noticed any photographs of Pohela Baishakh from their side, altyhogh have seen a few photographs of these people living in Sydney.

In Tokyo, we will celebrate the occasion tomorrow, Sunday. It is not the exact replica of what people do in Dhaka. And this year every thing will be kept low keyed because of what happened due to tsunami last month. Northern Japan including also Tokyo shakes almost every day.

Well, it's bit shameful but we hardly celebrate it like they do in Dhaka. Mostly people will have a special dinner in restaurants and nightclubs will play Bengali songs for a change.

Anyways here's some pictures.

The most noticeable/visible celebrations are in Shantiniketan; hope some body posts some pictures.
Some great pictures of food, esp sweets on this thread. Bengalis seem to have taken sweet-making to the ultimate exquisite art.
I once heard a Bengali describing t o an American tourist "palm-jaggery" aka "khejurer gur" as being superior to dark chocolate. Both the American and I were inclined to agree with that somewhat.
