me and Muse have had a debate on another place and will like to share it because of the current discussion and the significance of 25 Dec (clocking back to 1970)

@muse Same Army that promoted the first such thing is today an ally of those in society that are the "sharks" --- The ideology of the sharks has great appeal to Army, because the Army does not learn, how can those who are denial about their role in the destruction of Pakistan, learn, to stop playing the same role in the destruction of what is left of Pakistan - they will deny they play such a role, till they are left with Punjabistan, and even then, they will not learn, until they first accept responsibility for what they did, for the ideologies they promoted, nurtured and weaponized.

I would like to share the fisrt hand experience of my uncle who escaped Chetagong ... my viewrs might think I am making up things why am I or someone I know is always there in some historical events .. well to my defense, I belong to the forces as do some of my family members and we are a big family.

although my dear Muse has a sniper rifle approach and only has the Khakis in his site but I have more of an assault shotgun approach and I count everyone when I talk about something not very glorious.

oh yea the doctor uncle (yes he is my real uncle from mother side)..in his own words...

me and my Bengali class fellow are roaming in the bazaar of Chetagong, the date is 25 Dec 1970.... and I see Pakistani flags all over the place, on the shops, on the polls and pylons. I am bit surprised at this expression of patriotism and I ask my friend why all these flags? and he responds cheerfully, dont you know? its Quaid e Azam's birthday? and then the penny drops and I feel a bit embarrassed."

yes, I stand out in the crowd like a tower among the flimsy and short Bengalis .. but I feel at home, there is no hostility towards me.

fast forward few months...... he is in the Hostel of Chetagong medical college and the wirandas of the hostel are now lined up with dead bodies of the Bengalis because the hostel is now serving as makeshift hospital morgue. he and all other Pakistanis from West Pakistan are safe for now and being looked after by the Bengalis.

the news of the riots, massacres are everywhere, Mukti Bahmi is out killing punjabis and Beharis and Bengalis as well to square the blame on Pak army. the medical students are helping the hospital and busy attending the injured.

things are getting worse now.. the system is collapsing. word is out that army or the Maktir bahmi (depends who you ask) is killing civilians. ..

all western Pakistani students are unharmed and actually being actively protected by native Bengalis. there is some commotion and noise outside the hostels and a procession of high charged people is passing.

and all out a sudden, a fellow student jumps to the roof of the hostel and shouts a repeated ...Zindabad

Pakistan Zindabad? ..................no
Pakistan Army Zindabad? .........no
Islam Zindabad? .......................no
Quaid e Azam Zindabad? ..........no
Bhutto Zindabad? .....................no
Punjab Zindabad? .....................yes

???

really?

yes... there is some reaction from the crowd outside and we beg the idiot to come down and we are rushed inside the hostel to avoid being thrashed or probably hacked by the Dha
the night passes without incident but the army sends 6 tonner trucks with armed escort to take the western Pakistani students to a naval base.

the Bengali students protest and say that they will look after us... we are taken by the army to the Chetagong naval base. for the next weeks, our fellow bengali medical students keep coming to us in the base asking to come back. we are busy attending the dead and wounded in the base but some of us go back to the hostel.

and then that day comes when our number is up. the Mukti bhami has attached and its searching for all non Bengali people and killing them on spot. a Bengali peon comes to be in time informing me of imminent attack and ushers me to run with him out of the hostel right away. I jump out of the window and leave everything behind except what I have on me with some money.

I loose the guy while running away.. and aim towards the military outpost I knew.... they see me coming and dont shoot me right away because of my height and colour and I am able to identify myself. with 50 rupees I am able to board a PIA flight to Karachi"

(he served in Army medical corps (part of field ambulance) during and after 1971 war, he finished his MBBS from Nishtar medical collage in Multan, then he left the force as Capt Doctor & continued serving as a government doctor till early 80s then he immigrated, he is currently settled in UK).

hi thanks, we were in a gathering and he narrated in very detail about the events and see so many similarities these days.

just strengthens my view about how some turn of events and a handful of people can decide the fate of a nation. while the majority just follows blindly and accepts the outcome. my point being, if we let a handful of extremists and haters speak for us then we deserve what comes for us.
