If you want to enter industry and have better pay scale, more job satisfaction and relatively less chances of being fired, do PhD. Many of our Professors told what actually Industry wants.

But it depends on how much you are interest in that field. PhD is very tough call.

Dude isn't a PhD a tad bit too academic ? I mean I can understand PhD in certain subject areas but seriously how many of the world's top finance managers, bankers, civil engineers, marketing guys, CEOs etc. are PhDs ?

lol you know what here in Pakistan you have 4 years bachelor in business then a 2.5 year MBA ....that is 6.5 years of education after intermediate which already brings it to PHD level you dont know the mess we have here ....in UK you have 4 years for bachelors and masters and then next 2.5 years spare you can do phd or whatever

also in Pakistan companies have more demand for MBA i know a person who did his MS from a very reputed institute and got hired by a multinational company ~5 years ago ... one of the multinational company is paying higher to a fresh MBA what that guy is getting after 5 years..... you have higher chances to go up the hierarchy as an MBA
@Mani2020 UK has 3 yrs bachelors and 1 yr masters!

I am interested in what was once Kufa. Once capital of the Ummayads and Abassids, a city of splendor and a place that was the birthplace of scholars. Was Al Kindi born there? Also site of Hajjaj bin yousuf's massacre of 200,000 innocents while he put down a revolt. He was a brutal mass murderer that guy.

I prefer to read up on history more though.

Not too bad..am just leaving!!

:D... don't worry. I will leave first.

Mubarak ho g havi omid say hai :D

Kis omid say?

Dudess you're a Scientist & for that I gather a PhD is a fine...fine addition but one doesn't see many PhDs in Finance, Management, Marketing etc. because an MS is enough there & you need a whole lot more work experience to put all of that to good use.

Now let me tell you. Most of my profs worked in research Labs around the world. When you have PhD, you are more valuable to any company as they select you from your research and you become part of research team. Many of my friends are in TCS but one of our visiting faculty who did PhD from IIT, directly got package of over 15 lakh in TCS's R&D Center. He is more free to work than people who went to TCS after Post-Graduation. It will take them a lot of time.

Another example was told by my prof. He said that many of his friends are now jobless. As you reach 40-45, in major companies, and you earn lets say, 35 lakhs, they will rather hire more young under graduates instead of paying you alone. This happens. But if you are PhD holder, you are more valuable to them. See, MBA after Graduation increased because after certain age, you reach at a position where you need Managing skills. They will rather hire a person who has done MBA. The guy who told this was IIT PhD holder and worked at Cambridge and major communication companies.

Also, after PhD, you always have option of moving into Academics. Earn money in industry and then enjoy life in Academic along with earning.

Marketing guys, finance managers, etc. all are dependent on these PhD holders. Have you heard of Black and Scholes model for Options ?

One of my friend works in De Shaw, he told me that PhD holders are given completely different work and they are backbone of the company. Remember R&D department is backbone of any industry. In case of Finance, they rely on Data Analysis companies which recruits PhD holders.

Also, PhD holders pick their company and work more freely than under-graduates. But as I said, it depends on people and their interest. You can become CEO and richest person even without graduating like Bill gates, Steve Jobs did.

There is very wrong perception that PhD means bit too academic.
