1. You say Mars cannot be terraformed but do you also say that it is unlivable in the next 15 years ? SpaceX has said it will land humans on Mars by 2026. And you should read Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars sci-fibook trilogy ( Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars ) which is about the technological, political, socio-economic and terraforming elements of Mars. These books are called the textbooks for human settlement of Mars, though I don't see why the author struggled so much over developing a socio-economic theory in this story.

Possible. Some years ago I read a theory about how to make airships travel faster. Basically I think have an antenna in front of the airship and use it to charge up the air molecules there so that the molecules essentially vanish thus allowing the airship - at least the front part - to slide smoothly through the vacated air pocket. Also, about a month or two ago there was a PDF thread about a Chinese project for the development of a massive armed space plane that will, for its defense, have a force field.
