Narendra Modi is damaging India’s economy as well as its democracy-the Economist

The downfall of Modi is how he handles the economy. Bread and butter issues only matter in the end.

I still don't understand how he got a second term with a bigger mandate despite not doing a good job with the economy. I mean everyone expected him to get a 2nd term and honestly, every deserves two terms to really show results but his mandate in the second term should have at least taken a hit. It amazes me.

To start with Modi should resign and hide in some Hindu temple where he can Pooja elephants, rats, monkeys and pen!s.
At least he knows what is poojaing for.some don't even know what they are worshipping.stupid no

It helps to have Congress as an opponent.

You are right; in the development cycle India is 15 to 20 years behind China (some say 10 to 15 given the information economy vs industrial economy changes).

Question is what should a developed India look like? Like the USA? like Denmark? like Scandinavia? Economic system like the US, social systems like Scandinavia and industrialization like China will be great but may not be feasible....nor fully desirable given side effects.

Seems like after 15-20 years you have to repeat the same thing, check predictions about India catching up with China 10 years ago.

India manufacturing is not even 15% of China manufacturing, a powerhouse. Indian IT industry is mostly about BPO and its funny that, Indians are a huge percentage of IT industry, but their contribution to research and new ideas is ZERO, India, never devised any new programming language, or any operating system, new architectural paradigms or algorithms. Indian IT industry is all about low-skilled service sector, call centers, coding-BPO.

A developed India would look like Dubai with lots of white beggars and white servants.

I still don't understand how

As long as you live in a bubble, over-relying on largely leftie media to set the overton window and analysis (economically and politically)...there will be many things you don't understand. It's really that simple.

Go out there, visit some villages (sample them randomly yourself as you care to) where the "other" half live (that leftie talking heads pretend to give a damn about and yabber on media about) ..ask those folks directly the impact of building toilets, providing banking services (esp. so subsidy can be given direct), gas connections and that whole gamut of things.

If you have no time for any of that (because time on this forum is much more precious instead, being obsequious and pandering to same ole crappy trolls here in some time waste drama as I have observed regd you and a few others here)...at least look up the electrification NASA maps from before and after over the years.

These things matter in the end, much much more to how people judge their situation....compared to some GDP number drama that are heavily skewed to asset inflation locked in 1% market cap portfolio sheets to begin with.

The verdict clearly is what Modi did on the ground is far better than the "rural employment scheme" that silent sardar set out doing in ad hoc futile way in 1st term (and then compounded it with continued and increasing reckless supply side subsidies in 2nd term).

But silent sardar, as much as the scams did come home to roost in the end for his admin....at least perceivably looked like he half gave a damn about India and improving it.

Now that lot's chosen one is a claimed grown up man-child that can't decide if it feels more at home in bangkok massage parlour or some hindutva-stronk temple tour....all because it has a certain surname and silver spoon stuck up its rear...put there by waitress momma.

Yah keep not understanding how the mandate increased. It's time for that political craphole to be totally destroyed so something actually half-worthwhile that gives a damn can take it place. Give us something like Scindia-Pilot alliance running the show....I'll at least bother to analyse it then....whats the hold up with this man-child and ilk staying around like debris in a plugged drain?
