New Delhi, May 27: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi would be declared as the Prime Minister (PM) candidate for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), hinted party General Secretary Thawar Chand Gehlot.
Addressing media regarding PM nominee for upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Ghelot on Saturday, May 25 was quoted as saying, "The parliamentary board realises that Modiji is a popular leader in the country and it will honour the public sentiment while taking the decision."
However, Ghelot also clarified that the party would declare decision at the "appropriate moment". The general secretary said, "The party will announce its PM candidate as soon as the process for the next Lok Sabha poll gets under way."
Everything will be settled at the right time," replied Ghelot when he was asked about reported differences between Modi and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar.
It was reported that the Bihar CM was one of the anti-Modi leader and may break its alliance with BJP if the party declares Gujarat CM as PM candidate for Lok Sabha elections.
Recently, one opinion poll said that if Narendra Modi is projected as BJP Prime Ministerial candidate, the NDA could get 220 seats.
Otherwise, the BJP will emerge as the single biggest party with 137 seats, a jump of 21 from its total in 2009 with the Congress finishing second at 116, the opinion poll suggested. The UPA's tally is set to crash by 95 in the Lok Sabha elections for 2014 said the survey.
