The agents of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) the premier intelligence agency of India, Iranian, Bangladesh nationals along with Hezbollah activists have obtained Pakistani Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) in connivance with the officials of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), Senator Muhammad Talha Mehmood Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control alleged on Wednesday.
"I have sufficient proof regarding the involvement of Nadra officials in the issuance of CNICs to agents of RAW, Iranian, Bangladesh nationals along with the activists of Hezbollah," he claimed while chairing a meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control.
Through a laptop connected with the main database of the Nadra foreign nationals enter their data to get CNICs, according to him. He said that most of such cases have occurred in Karachi, hence Nadra officials in Karachi should be investigated. He directed the Nadra chief to investigate the matter and submit a report before the committee as soon as possible.
Acting Chairman Nadra Imtiaz Tajwar; however, said that Nadra has a complete secure system that had a four-tier security checks. The authority would thoroughly investigate the matter and a strict action would be taken against the officials involved. Tajwar said that Nadra system facing attacks from hackers on a daily basis; 50 percent from the US, 30 percent from India and 20 percent from Israel, but the system of the authority is too strong to resist such attacks.
The committee expressed its annoyance over the chronic absence of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the meeting. Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi said that the Interior Minister never bothered to attend even a single meeting since he took oath of his office. "The whole world is being misled in the name of democracy in Pakistan, while situation speaks otherwise, as targeted killings, terrorism and kidnapping for ransom become a routine business. Peshawar is listed among the ten most dangerous cities of the world," he said. He said the Interior Minister is responsible for defending his Ministry and answerable to the parliament.
Senator Mukhtiar Ahmed Dhamrah Aajiz, Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, Shahi Syed and Senator Sardar Fateh Muhammad Hasni staged a token walk-out from the meeting against the continued absence of Interior Minister. The committee was informed that China had threatened to stop all its ongoing projects, including Neelum Jehlum Hydro Power Project, if Pakistan does not help execute the Safe City Project through its company Hawaii after the Supreme Court has declared the project illegal. The committee showed its reservation as one of its members said: "It shows that China at any time could withdraw from any mega project including the Gwadar project."
Shahid Ahmed, member finance Nadra, informed the committee that Hawaii Company of China has started over worth $124.5 million Safe City project Islamabad, including the construction of Command and Control Centre (CCC) and lying of 500-kilometer fiber. "The authority has set up a demo site at NTC building; ad it has and also install four demo cameras at different places," he said. He said that under the agreement equipment of the project would be shifted after completion of the CCC. "Following the directives of Interior Minister, the ministry will hire foreign consultants for examining the quality and other aspects of equipments," he said.
Ahmad said that the Safe City Project will be completed in June, 2015 and Hawaii company will impart training regarding execution of the project to police officials. Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi said the credit of initiating the Safe City Project goes to Senate's Standing Committee on Interior.
