ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary panel passed on Wednesday Pakistan Commissions of Inquiry bill, 2016 which the government introduced last month in the National Assembly to probe into the Panamagate scandal that surfaced in April this year.

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Law and Justice unanimously passed the draft bill which will now be presented in the National Assembly for final approval. The law will replace the Pakistan Commissions of Inquiry Act of 1956.

Nawaz Sharif will be in jail in 2018 over Panama leaks: Bilawal

Minister of Law and Justice Zahid Hamid presented the bill in the committee which was presided over by Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk.

The minister said that the government had presented the bill in the National Assembly on September 3 after the cabinet approved it on August 31.

The minister said government tried to tailor the law with the consensus of the opposition, but it seemed that the opposition’s only target was the Prime Minister and not addressing other issues raised in the Panama scandal. The bill has 19 clauses.

The commission, it proposes, shall have additional powers of a criminal court, besides the authority to constitute special teams.

Terming the bill ‘balanaced’, the minister explained that the draft would empower the commission to hire the services of international experts, besides enabling it to obtain information from everyone.

Elusive Panama leaks briefing angers MPs

The minister insisted that the government intended to make the report public, adding that the report on this scandal would not be shelved by branding its findings ‘secret’ like Hamoodur Rehman and Abbottabad commissions’ reports.

Appreciating the lawmakers’ support for the bill, the minister said: “This commission will not only investigate the Panamagate scandal, but it will enable other future investigations.”

During the meeting, MQM lawmaker S A Iqbal Qadri suggested that officials helping the commission should at least be in grade-18 and not grade-17. The minister agreed to the change and amended the bill.

now i have completely understood that what were the reasons behind IK`s boycott of joint session of NA and why did he give of shutting down of Islamabad so early even after his call for protest after Moharam. actually he realized that settings have been made by opposition with govt regarding panama leaks and if he does not do something earlier then he would be on backfoot again. i
now my prediction is that this law is going to be passed to make it act by NA soon atleast before 30th and most probably in this seession to make IK maligned if he goes to shut down for ISLAMABAd. so i think IK need to change its policy again and we will witness that in coming time.
what i would advise to IK is that KHAN sb no doubt you have courage and temprament but NS has identified your weakness that is" if you dont get victory immediately then you start becoming annoyed, confused and start to loose temper hence commits blunders. so Khan sb be patient because it would pay you a lot otherwise your opponent would not remain NS but soon you will be forced to fight with BBZ hence it is your defeat.

bill is toothless. the same guy grafted this bill also drafted NRO
another lollipop.like the one given before dharna to stop khan.but this time he covered many of his weaknesses.i hope this time its different

PML N and PPP signed , Meesak e Bari , means 1 time Nawaz , next time PPP , then Nawaz then PPP

Remember Shabazz sharrif arousing the crowd that he will drag zaradari in Streets of Lahore and hang him , same thing this Bilawal is saying we will put nawaz in jail . They both are Con artist fooling this nation

The man who created NRO, Imran Khan served as a political agent for his bogus referendum for ascension to presidency. So how do you make out of this then?

I am not diverting the topic, I just need the answer.

It is simple:

Will Nawaz Sharif and his family present themselves for accountability by reliable institutions or not?

Everything else is cosmetics.

Steep decline in Punjab’s literacy rate due to rulers’ incompetence and insincerity: Moonis Elahi

Lahore: Moonis Elahi the senior central leader of Pakistan Muslim League has strongly criticized Punjab Education Department’s poor performance of last two and a half years. Quoting the 2010 Global Monitoring Report of an international service organisation in which Punjab’s literacy rate has been shown taking a steep plunge, Moonis Elahi has held the Shahbaz Government as fully responsible for this disappointing performance. According to Moonis Elahi the World Bank and the UN reports of 2007 had acknowledged that Punjab’s literacy rate had jumped to 62% under Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s pro education policies.

Moonis Elahi alleges Shahbaz Government’s incompetence and vested interests behind the sharp decline in Punjab’s literacy and enrollment rates since 2008. He has also dubbed the Punjab Government’s controversial decision of appointing boards of directors with sweeping powers in government owned colleges as nothing short of villainy with future generations. Moonis Elahi made these comments during a meeting with members of Pakistan Muslim League Education Wing in Lahore today.

He alleged that the majority of appointments in these boards of directors were politically motivated and therefore counterproductive. He said that these boards were as controversial and useless as the dozens of task forces existing in Punjab since 2008 and which had been unable in proving to date their efficacy and utility. Moonis Elahi reiterated his firm commitment to the concerns and interests of students, teachers and parents of the province in the backdrop of the continuous anti-education policies of the Shahbaz administration. He said that the present Punjab rulers’ interest in the growth of education and the bright future of the students could be assessed from the fact that Punjab Education Department had been running without a minister since 2008.
