Had known these things since long ago. Even Jinnah was okay with bengalis going for an independent state of their own. Infact if you remember there was a three tier constitution solution Jinnah was ready accept to keep a complete unitd india. But nehru and gandhi went against it cause they felt the three tier solution is the same as three indoeendent states carved out of sub continent. Three tier solution proposed independent governance of northwest sub con(pakistan) , mainland india , and united bengal state.

Jinnah always knew that bengali leaders had been trying for a seperate state of their own, but it was when nehru and patel had hijacked the seperation of bengal,mthen suharwardys and other Bengali leaders rushed to Jinnah for joining pakistan.
