JF-17Ms delivered to Myanmar
In October 2018, it was reported that already six JF-17M fighter aircraft were delivered to the Myanmar Defence Force. The aircraft are based at Pathein Air Base. This airbase is part of the Western SOC (Sector Operations Center) with its HQ at Sittwe Air Base.
Early November 2016 it was confirmed that the purchase of the JF-17 was approved. Rumours on this purchase appeared for the first time in February 2016, where press reports suggested that Myanmar was the mystery launch customer for the AVIC/PAC JF-17 Thunder. Then it became silent for many months. According to the Pakistan TV Channel Dunya News, Myanmar will acquire sixteen aircraft, but the total figure could exceed two dozen.
Myanmar is the first country to buy the JF-17 Thunder, jointly manufactured by Pakistan and China.
The first two JF-17Ms were noted at the CAC factory airfield in Chengdu (China) on 12 June 2017. In October 2018, a photo appeared from the fourth JF-17M.
