Myanmar Army has initiated the spade work for setting up a temporary Platoon Base camp at the disputed Holenphai village under Moreh subdivision in Chandel district.
The ADC of Moreh and State police persuading a Myanmar Army official to stop the work.
Holenphai village is located 3 kilometres South of Moreh Police Station, adjacent to Border Pillar 76 .
The Myanmar Army has also claimed that the areais within their territory.
Based on inputs fed by Lalkholun Haokip, chief of Holenphai, ADC of Moreh, Robert Singh Kshetrimayum along with SDPO of Moreh, H BalaramSingh and OC of Moreh Commando, Sada-nanda rushed to the site for spot inspection.
Coming across the Myanmar army clearing the ground for setting up their base camp, the officials called on the OC of Myanmar Army's 87 LI.
The ADC pursued the CO with a request to halt the work until a final settlement is reached between the higher authorities of the two countries.
Since the area is 10 metre away from the Border Pillar, Robert also urged the CO to meet his 9 Assam Rifles counterpart while also urging him to uphold the cordial relations between the two countries.
Robert further reminded the Myanmar Army officer that construction of Integrated Check Post near Border Pillar 78 wasaborted as a mark of respect to the request of the Myanmar Govt earlier.
Responding to the request, the CO of Myanmar's 87 LI said that the temporary Platoon Base Camp was constructed at the order of Myanmar's Govt higher authorities.
"According to the Myanmar map, Holenphai falls within Myanmar territory," he said adding, 'The Myanmar army is setting up its temporary Platoon base camp within its territory.
"Unless the higher authority said so I cannot halt the work," he said while assuring that he would convey the matter to the higher authorities.
He added that the matter was already conveyed to the CO of 9 Assam Rifles a month back.
A number of civil society organisations had earlier inspected the border fencing works taken up and called for a halt to the work on the ground that Manipur stands to lose a huge chunk of her territory.
