For historical reasons AL has to depend on India for their survival. This symbiotic relationship has made their patriotism questionable.

Awami League would be fool to have any deals with India before the elections. Good thing the election is in 2014, if awami league makes any deal regarding this matter with India, it would be the end of awami league's reign. People would not take this.

I doubt. Most people are not that conscious. It's rather possible AL would agree with less than our fair share, withdraw the case BD had filed with ITLS (majority people simply don't care) and then would highlight this as their victory over India at home media.

No troop build-up by Myanmar: BGB

A high-level team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Thursday visited the Bangladesh-Myanmar border but found no troops build-up by Myanmar along the border.

Some newspapers and television channels reported in the last few days that Myanmar mobilised a huge number of troops along the border with Bangladesh.

Headed by BGB’s Chittagong Sector Commander Col Bashirul Islam, the team visited the bordering Naikhanchhari upazila for about seven hours from 10:00am.

During the visit the team members found regular petrol of Myanmar’s border forces, Nasaka, but no sign of military deployment.

“We could not find any evidence of military build-up along the borders during our visit,” said Lt Col Khalequzzaman, commander of 17-BGB battalion in Cox’s Bazar, after concluding their visit around 5:00pm.

He said they also wanted to know about troop mobilisation when they met with Nasaka officials on the border Wednesday morning, but the officers rejected it. They termed it as propaganda, he added.

1. Let us consider the fols:

a. A BD-Burma war is long overdue. The terrible atrocities committed by the Burmese on the Rohingyas, who are our kith and kin, beats anything in modern history. This has remained unreported because of the apathy of firstly Pakistan authorities and now BD authorities. The Rohingyas them selves have always refused to understand the role of politics or media in their struggle.

b. By all measure Arakan should have been a part of BD. But the British left this state mischievously under the Burmese although the First Anglo Burmese War was fought at the behest of the Arakanese who had always received assistance from Bengla in expelling the Burmese invaders.

c. Arakanese - both Muslims as well as Rakhine Buddhists either want to join BD or confederate with her.

d. Hasina understands very well that not only will she be defeated in the next election by a record margin, but she and her family and cohort will have to face the wrath of the public for her doings. Therefore, a baked war would not be a bad idea. Such a war would obviously put BNP in a dilemma.

e. Yes, India would encourage BD into such a war because, then she will be able to exploit BD further. Moreover, she has her eyes on the oil, gas, hydel power and minerals of Arakan which would be easier exploited if under BD. Arakan is strategic to her Look East Policy and her plans to command the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.

2. Last time in 1992, BD lost a golden opportunity to thrash the Burmese out of Arakan because of India factor. Def Secy Dick Chenny was enthusiastic and, being highly dishonest, he was also looking at his possible personal gains. The entire Muslim world was electrified into support. S Arabia sent Gen Khalid to list out BD's requirements. ACM Faruq Feroze, the Chairman Pak JCS visited with a supply of fighters and more on offer. However, India advised the Americans that in case of war, she would invoke the 25 Years "Freindship" Treaty under which she will have to be involved. When BD refused such ideas, the Indians offered the Americans ops through her territory. The Americans understood the Indians were trying to draw her in to flatten out the NE insurgents.

3. However, an idea was spread around that the Chinese had vetoed such an enterprise by BD. That of course is incorrect although seemingly China was very close to Burma at that time. But the historical fact is that the Chinese have never trusted the Burmese and never will.

We don't necessarily feel India is against us, but we doubt our politicians' ability/willingness to resist any possible hostile move on India's behalf.

Yes it would be in our best interest to search for other options like it is natural for India to seek it's best interest.

Basically it does not matter, unless yo are a hardcore supporter of BNP. If AL can bring result from India, in a case by case basis then yo should take that as advantage. But of-course if any deal goes against the interest of Bangladesh, yo have every right to oppose to that particular deal. But, blindly opposing everything is just plain stupid.

Among some businessmen I think. Their resentment wouldn't be crucial, AL is going to lose the next election for sure though.

Basically it does not matter, unless yo are a hardcore supporter of BNP. If AL can bring result from India, in a case by case basis then yo should take that as advantage. Counting both forces I guess bangladesh has upper hand... But with china support burma can defeat bangla easily... . Burma has more to offer to china unlike bangla... ..

Burma just sent soldiers into China to kill Chinese citizens, and recently pulled funding from our dam project, and started courting them.

I cannot see them as reliable partners.
