Featured Myanmar gathers troops near Bangladesh border

Burma is provoking Bangladesh into a war for the simple reason of diverting the attention of international community from Rohingya issue. Bangladesh should mobilize troops near Burmese border to give a message to Tatmadaw that Bangladesh army has the will and the power to crush any military misadventure by Tatmadaw.

I think this is likely. They need an excuse to divert attention to picture the Rohingya issue as a conflict between BD and Burma. BD should not take the bait. It may look like we are behaving cowardly but falling into a trap is foolish.

Time for posturing is long gone. BD needs to take action or forever hosts the existing rohingya and prepare for the next wave.

Doesn't BD have significant military presence on Saint Martin ? If Myanmar wants to take it there will be nothing short of war
People should not expect BGB to fight against MM Navy. Who knows behind the screen of their land troops what MM is planning. MM may suddenly encircle St. Martin, capture BGB troops and declare it a part and parcel of MM.

It may also then ask the GoB to send the Rohingya refugees to settle in St. Martin island. All problems solved. Is it too much imagination?

Why do we care if they are within their territory?

We have resources in place to react if there is any transgression.

AFAIK, Burma and BD have no legal obligations to demilitarise the BD-Burma border.

We should keep our side of the border sealed as much as possible at all times regardless of what Burma does.
No adventurism, please. It is rather MM which has successfully sealed the BD-MM border with landmines. They kept a few km of opening to allow Rohingyas to enter BD.

What is the bigger threat to Bangladesh India or Myanmar?
Of course India. It is a country with ten times the capability of ours where anti-Muslim and 'anti-Bengali/Bangladeshi Muslim' hindu extremist govt. enjoy overwhelming popular support. On the other hand, myanmar in all account is a much smaller country than Bangladesh(except land area) .
Apples and oranges comparison.

Bangladesh's main beef with India is water sharing. The rest of the problems (Bangladeshis getting shot while tresspassing, trade imbalance, etc..) are self-inflicted.

Myanmar on the other hand pushes Rohigyas in.
The other problems are sort of self-inflicted (smuggling in of illicit substances, etc..).
Wait until Corona epidemic subside from the public attention, Modi govt. will reactivate their CAA-NRC weapon against Bangladesh. As Modi gang can not do anything against China and Pakistan, will pick Bangladesh as the softest target to vent their frustration. We should not under estimate myanmar threat, but elevating them as our primary threat perception will be suicidal. I have said this many times here, if we can achieve the means to resisit the pressure from Hindutva India, then tackling Myanmar will not be a problem.

The bitter truth is, we are in a worst geo-strategic location possible. We are surrounded by two militarily powerful non Muslim countries who happend to be the most virulent Islamophobic country in the world. Only a 'fortress state' mentality and preparation will ensure our survival in this tough neighborhood.

See military solution was never going to work to start with.

In my opinion the only option is to arm the Arakan Liberation Army and give them training. Arming Rohingya will be useless, they are too few, not educated, don't have good leadership and prone to be radicalized by jihadis.

Myanmar deploys over 2,500 more troops near Bangladesh border

Myanmar has deployed more than 2,500 additional troops since September 12 in camps along the Rakhine State and Chin State border in western Burma bordering Bangladesh.

Additional troops and weapons were suddenly deployed under pretext of “suppressing” the Arakan Army, declared a “terrorist group” by the Myanmar government, according to an intelligence agency of Bangladesh.

Security sources said two meetings regarding the security of Rakhine State were held on September 11 and 12 in Myanmar’s capital Naypyitaw, led by a senior general.

The meetings accused the Arakan Army in Rakhine of terrorist activities. Officials present at the meeting decided to deploy additional troops as part of their action against the Arakan Army.

Officers from the three Myanmar armed forces — army, navy, and air force — were present at the meetings.

Bangladesh is concerned about the sudden deployment of armed forces in the border camps of the neighbouring country and Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry has already summoned Myanmar's Ambassador to Dhaka regarding the newly deployed additional troops.

Security officials believe that in the name of suppressing the Arakan Army, Myanmar forces could carry out new killings and torture in Rakhine or Chin state as they did in 2017.

There may be a conspiracy to force the Rohingya or people of other ethnicities of that country into Bangladesh again, which could be a security risk for Bangladesh, they said.

Security analyst Major General (retd) Abdur Rashid told Dhaka Tribune: “The Myanmar government may have thought the overall situation there would be calm after the Rohingyas were forced out.”

But now they are facing various other problems, including separatist movements of various groups, he continued.

“Their [Myanmar] armed forces have suffered casualties because of them [separatist groups]. To control them, Myanmar could suddenly increase its military presence,” he added.

The security expert also said: “Myanmar is not eager to take back the huge numbers of Rohingya people. Due to international pressure, the Myanmar government — which is controlled by the military behind the scenes — may resort to malicious methods to suppress terrorism.

“There is also tension in their politics owing to efforts to approve legislation for reducing the power of the military. The military presence may have been increased to prevent that.

“Whatever the reason, we have to be prepared and keep an eye on Myanmar as our neighbouring country.”

According to a security source in Bangladesh, before the deployment of the new troops, there were a total of 46 battalions under the commander of west Burma in 13 townships and sadars of Rakhine and Chin states.

Myanmar deployed military troops along its border after it launched a crackdown on Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State in 2017, forcing over 730,000 people to flee to Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is now home to more than a million Myanmar nationals, who live in overcrowded camps in Cox’s Bazar.

Are Bengalis illegally immigrating to Myanmar too? What is it about Bangladesh that makes them want to risk their lives crossing borders...?

Should ask the Pakistanis trying to pass off as 'syrians' in Eastern European refugee camps with the goal of getting to Germany.

I'm sure they will fill you in on the details.

Arming the AA is too risky of an idea , it’s bound to backfire on us at some point since they want territory in bd as well, why not arm some more prevalent insurgencies like the on in the Shan. The goal should be to destabilize them as much as possible and hopefully far away from our border

.
I doubt the army is allowing this to go unnoticed, Unlike the Air Force they are somewhat competent . And it’s not like we are talking about India either . If they are taking any precautionary measures I doubt they’d broadcast it on Facebook to let the whole world know

.
Questing of the hour is, WHAT if any step taken by awami league regime to safeguard current build up by Myanmar? Calling Myanmar ambassador to foreign ministry does not count as safeguard measure. Can any of regime messenger here (you know who you are) can enlighten us?

But Bangladesh economy is doing so well not like Pakistan. As far as I know Pakistanis aren't smuggling cows either.
btw this thread is not about Pakistanis what makes you bring them up?

Will Bangladesh respond with an equal military deployment or just ignore it to save money?

Better take precautionary measures now to prevent further genocide of Rohingyas.
