China is really caught between a rock and a hard place.

The Kokang rebels would love to see the Chinese respond with military forces but that would be aiding the Kokang rebels.

Hans on the whole are a classless breed who have decimated Tibet and continue to trade with tigers and rhino horns due to their degenerate nature. (Sick people actually believe eating tiger penis soup has some sort of benefit)

Senseless. paranoia, who brainwash you?

The safest borderline of China is the border with Vietnam.
Help MM to destroy all rebels and everything become fine.

Kokang is not rebels. Myanmar always use military method to solve problem. It has been 60 years, but the result is bad. They need to change.

The world is all to aware of China's dirty dealings in Africa and it's love of rare exotic animals not to mention how the han's annexed Tibet.

More trouble on the Burma China border is better for India as it will mean China has to focus along that front more than LOC raids into India.

Social culture decides. Confucian emphasize on social harmony and country unification. So you can see Vietnam unified in 1975 eagerly north and south part. North and South Korea depart for 60 years, and both already has chair in UN, they still long for unification.

This is cultural power, but Myanmar lack this power.

By the way, congrats for 40 year-ceremony of Vietnam Unification.

Pakistan and China should form a joint task force to probe into this problem...

Myanmar Army is trying hard to contain the crisis. The shelling is either intentional by the rebels, or accidental from the side of the Army.

Myanmar extends martial law in area near China border

YANGON (Reuters) - Myanmar's parliament has extended martial law for three months in a region along its border with China as clashes between government troops and a rebel group continue.

Cross-border fire during the fighting has strained ties between Myanmar and China.

The conflict has also been a setback for Myanmar's semi-civilian government, which took power in 2011 after 49 years of military rule and is seeking to end hostilities with the many groups that have taken up arms since independence in 1948.

President Thein Sein declared a three-month state of emergency and imposed martial law in the region on Feb. 17 after fighting broke out between the Myanmar military and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA).

The country's parliament voted on Friday to extend the martial law, Win Oo, a parliamentarian with the governing Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) told Reuters on Friday.

Martial law gives the military sweeping judicial and administrative powers.

The U.N. has estimated 60,000 people had crossed the border into China due to the clashes, though some started returning last month.

China has repeatedly demand that Myanmar take greater steps to prevent fighting from spilling over to its side of the border. Myanmar government soldiers have been battling rebels who were dug in as close as 500 meters (1,640 ft) from the border area, Myanmar's Information Ministry said in April.

Find out who to blame before taking ‘revenge’
Source:Global Times Published: 2015-5-15

Two more shells from Myanmar fell across the border on Thursday night, injuring five people on the Chinese side, including two seriously wounded. It is another serious incident after a stray bomb from a Myanmar plane killed five Chinese and injured eight in China's Yunnan Province on March 13.

It is outrageous to see innocent Chinese citizens suffering from Myanmar's civil war. After the March 13 incident happened, the Chinese military filed a serious warning with the Myanmar government, and Chinese fighter jets have since been closely monitoring the moves of Myanmar planes.

However, it seems an even more challenging job is making sure the artillery shells will not fall onto Chinese territory.

Most Chinese observers believe there is no political logic in any possibility that the Myanmar government meant to militarily challenge China. The incidents are more likely accidental.

Of course, it takes time and careful investigation to draw any conclusion. The chaotic situation in Myanmar and the closeness of the exchanges of fire between its rebel and government forces to the border may make it possible for the artillery troops to made mistakes. It is also possible someone did it intentionally.

The Chinese public was furious on Thursday - some even called for revenge. It is natural. Any country would have a similar reaction.

But here comes a problem. Whom are you going to take revenge on? Myanmar? It is not China's enemy. If this shelling was intentional, we need to find out exactly who did it. If it was an accident, we need to cooperate with the Myanmar government to root out a repetition.

It might cheer the Chinese public up if we answered by firing back a series of shells toward where the original shells came from. But if we do it without intensive investigation to find firm proof, the consequences will be unpredictable. The outside world would read this as China's "revenge," which is what some ill-minded people have hoped for.

Whatever measures China will take in response to this incident, a thorough investigation must be conducted first. China can demand Myanmar's fully cooperation in this investigation, and make sure it is conducted carefully and the result must be true. Only targeted measures can hit whoever is responsible for the incident, and prevent it from happening again.

If we fire back toward where the stray shells came from, we may also kill innocent people. It does not meet China's national interests, and neither will it do any good to the border residents' long term safety.

We must be resolute in safeguarding our border residents' safety. However, we must stay sober in the way we protect them.

Myanmar explosives injure five in China - Channel NewsAsia

Myanmar can continue bombing ariterally shells into China border without getting close to PLAAF. PLA knows it can't do anything about it.

So what is the Chinese response?

I hope it will be diplomatic and not military related.

Afterall, Myanmar is home to both Japanese and Chinese investments in the billions.

Best not to do anything to anger Japan,.... :)
