What's new

Myanmar aircraft cross Bangladesh border, fire shells

Last time Burmese junta watched firmness from Bangladesh was in 2008 during the MUA-FUA Caretaker govt. Even BNP almost gone to war with the Burmese in 1992 over Rohingya influx. But this govt. in the last 13 years never ever showed any spine when it comes to Myanmar. Less we talk about India is better. Husband has full rights to cultivate his fertile land.(Surah Al Baqarah, Ayah 223).
BAL is weak because it knows its grasp on power is illegitimate thus it has sought to weaken other sources of power.

It is time to eliminate BAL now, the military should move, it will have wide support.

As much as I hate the BAL, at least there has been politcal stability which allows for economic development.

If not BAL, then what?

There is NO alternative.

Military rule is not the answer.

Alot of things said in this thread are probably true.

It IS possible there is some understanding with China about looking the other way, if you zoom out and see some sort of reapprocahment between China and Bangladesh recently.

Still, it is embarassing the state of affairs for Bangladesh in terms of military capability as well as lack of will to stand up for itself.

Like REALLY REALLY embarassing.
That makes no sense... why should we look away? What do we owe Burma or China?

Entirely illogical to facilatate any action on BD soil. We are not talking about USA.... we are talking about moghs for gods sake. There is effectively no red line and no BD sovereignty.
BAL should not be allowed to reign any further.

Try to understand the reality of things sometimes shouldnt be taken at face value.

I will try to present some sort of brief arguement here.

Everything I say will be in the context of the big picture i.e. US China conflict.

US tried to militarize the situation between Myanmar and Bangaldesh after 2017.

Offering no real support other than to fuel weapons sales in another x verus y conflict.

China DID support Myanamar in 2017 and Bangladesh took offence.

In the years that followed Bangladesh flirted with the US in terms of weapons sales.

Uncle Sam wants things to be on his terms.

Bangladesh doesn't like that and see's this as making a deal with the devil.

Also, Bangladesh tries to bypass India and deal more directly with the US.

Again, deal with the devil.

My litmus test for this theory is if BAF buys the F-16 or J-10 to replace its single seaters.

Notice how the other 2 Type 53H3 never came post 2017.

However, things seemed to have thawed between China and Bangladesh recently.

It may be that Bangladesh has realized Myanmar is the lesser of two evils between India and Myanmar and will need China more than the US.

Of course Bangladesh can not afford to alienate the US/West too much.

Also the US attitude towards South Asia, specifically Pakistan and Bangladesh in relation to the Russia/Ukraine conflict has left a bad taste in the mouth for Dhaka in regards to dealing with the US.

Please excuse the word salad above but I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

i.e. Bangladesh NEEDS China more than it realized before and the cost of that is to play ball and look the other way so long as China ultimately deals with Myanmar.

But yes I do agree with you, BAL is absolute trash.

Its never going to be a good time to topple BAL....it will be messy in every scenario.

They wont relinquish power willingly because they fear the public and repercussion of their excess.

Military rule for a bit followed by open election.

There is no easy answer here as smooth transfer of power is not possible.

No... it is because we are very very weak and lack courage to fight.

Myanmar is being supported by China, Russia and Pakistan.

For obvious reasons, India will stay neutral in any Myanmar-BD conflict.

So BD's best option is to work with US, Japan & EU.

No point in letting Myanmar provoke anything bigger when we have far more to lose than them

I agree. BD should ignore and not make it an issue.

No i dont buy that. BD china relationship can not be predicated on burma.

Whilst china offers easy loans, they can be gotten elsewhere. Whilst china has cheap weapons, well they can also be purchased elsewhere. Our export import is 1:9 on chinas favour.

BD China meeting of mind comes from the fact we both need to check a fascist hindutva india. Nothing that is happening now is furthering that in any way.

It is a hard thing to accept but we are this rubbish and strategically blind to the obvious. BAL cares only to perpetuate its rule, it does not care about BD or its sovereignity will not lift a hand to defend it. We can not afford to look the other way any longer.

look like MYM make BD a punching bag . every few days they use it

Sure..... lets allow india/myanmer/USA/Pakistan/any country of choice enter BD territory and bomb our territory..... its all cool....let them do what they want... sovereignty is a mirage and is not worth fighting for...lets disband all millitary forces because we are never going to use them anyway....

If you wont stand up for your sovereignty your nation cease to exist...

look like MYM make BD a punching bag . every few days they use it
They can probably walk into Chittagong whilst we send back another strongly worded letter...

Bro,

Excellent analysis.

Don't say such things

No one should support such move from military
Pakistan is already suffering from this
You should be thankful for political stabilit

BD does not have any form of political stability. What it has is dictatorship that has been installed by an enemy state. This dictatorship lacks democratic legitimacy and popular support.

The military has taken oath to protect the country from enemies within an without.

Our military establishment is proving that it is not capable of doing anything about the enemy without. So.....
