I think there is a world of a difference between being a Muslim in a Muslim majority 'Islamic Republic of Pakistan' and Hindu majority India where Modi rules.

The trials for a Muslim in Pakistan are vastly different than the trials for a Muslim in India or any other such place.

Add to that the fact that a good number of Muslims are cultural Muslims, not just in India but in Pakistan as well.

Go to the lal shebaz qalandar shrine or any other and you'd see that many have a strange understanding of tawheed that you wouldn't find in the Quran (some would argue it's the opposite of it).

The man wasn't a Muslim because he chose to believe in it, rather was born into it. He became a hindu not because he thought it was the truth, rather it was a way for him to try and achieve certain goals.

So his Islam wasn't based in belief of its truth neither is his Hinduism.

Any Muslim can leave Islam, but once an ex-Muslim starts an agenda to defame or target Islam, then he/she is a target and becomes a murtad. It's honestly that simple through out all Islamic jurisprudence and texts.
