What's new

My heartiest congrats to our Superstar.

Have u seen Waar?

And Op. 021 is Pak's first Spy thriller. It will show how our great intelligencia network work/operate.

I hate to say it but I haven't yet. Tried once but it was sold out. Everyone I know has seen it atleast twice so I'm left alone till a dvd comes out.

.
I did not see Ram Leela, but the two other films are actually flop only. They collect huge in initial weeks coz fo the huge back ground and initial pool.
i have seen Ram Leela on Saturday night and it has songs in it in every 5 minutes.Entire film revolved around Songs and Dance and Love.

So when u will watch it im sure u will conclude its more then just a popcorn flick. Even i have watched it twice and cant wait for a third time. I will suggest u to watch it on cinema. The environment, Sound Quality, Visuals r best there, specially for a film like Waar Cinemas is where u should be.

an artist should work anywhere in the world, this has nothing to do with religion or nationality

I guess ill take a longer than usual lunch break this week and see it. After discussing the story with 10 different viewers I came to the conclusion it was a somewhat mediocre story. For a first film it has done wonders and hope they fortify with all this constructive criticism.

.
what has nationality got to do with this??are'nt pakistani business men doing business with india??from when does acting in some other country amount to disaffection to ur country??its sad to see artists getting constrained..i'm sure if hes got enough talent then indians or anybody for that matter would love him.
Its profits, Those who make them have Nationality and Tax over it in a Film's case those who make/produce them r biggest stake holders. Be it their Country or them.

Agree obviously nor is this our topic of discussion. Rather is to first stand on yr own feet then compete with other Nationalities.

one thing u need to keep in mind is this film's Class. It is classified as an Action thriller. So in action thriller story has a little to do........ U may take any action thriller from anywhere in the world and u will have same feeling. U just watch it in cinema and im 100% sure u will love it. Not just because its a domestic production but its a Quality film worth to spend yr money upon.

Dont believe in everyone u hear abt something u havnt seen personally. Afterall there is a reason why its shows r still booked even though its on her 5th week.

money is just one factor but an artist gets utmost satisfaction when his work is admired by people.when he grows in his field.the more people are entertained the more he feels happy.today bollywood is the only film industry which survived hollywood across the globe due to several reasons(i dont mean other industries do not exist).similarly when people love stars let them explore the new worlds.who know tomorrow they might be one of the most loved people here..

Sure and thats why a copy of script is presented to the interested actor in the first place to decide if he like it or not on the first place. If u think Bollywood is the only industry surviving Hollywood then yr wrong. Ever Heard of Nollywood of Nigeria? After Hollywood and Bollywood its the third largest industry and biggest and most like in Africa and black community across the Glob..

i havent heard of it.and i said that i dont mean other cinemas donot exist. i mean existing a global market by survival im sure every country has their own cinema but i'm not talking about that.when aishwarya or shahrukh go to some place people recognize them they love them or they hate them.bollywood produces largest number of films in the world larger than hollywood.bollywood has a market worldwide and it has begun slowly and some of its actors act in other cinema aswell.if they would have kept so many constrains on their actors i dont think they would be where they are now.even its the same case in nollywood u knew it because they spread it across the world irrespective of country.i dont think their actors act only in nigerian films

if he rejected the offer because he disliked the script then good.but u cant say he should reject the script just because that belongs to india.

I might have comprehension issues, I thought thats what the topic was, saluting our superstar for not accepting offer in Indian movie. But where this competition with other nationalities comes in....oh heck with it you are just confusing me

He says that Im Pakistani and Pak films r my priority.

Given yr behavior with our Nation in spots, Global Isolation, Image etc etc So in those does yr Great lecture of Beyond Nationality doesnt comply??

What r u joking upon? U should be the last person on Earth to tell us that.

What Shaan Did i salute him not just because he has rejected hi-fy indian film but because he didnt compromised on National integrity and Self respect!!!

No to Priyanka, yes to Waar for Shamoon Abbasi

Villain in upcoming film says he is committed to Bilal Lashari’s vision.

LAHORE:
While most mid-career actors’ ultimate goal is to bag the main lead in a film, Shamoon Abbasi grew up with a different ambition — of being a hated villain. With the release of upcoming big budget film Waar right around the corner, Abbasi’s dream of becoming Pakistani cinema’s favourite bad guy may well come true.

“People have asked me why I always pursue negative roles,” says Abbasi, who plays a deadly assassin in Bilal Lashari’s Waar. “There are a lot of heroes — I want to be the anti-hero,” he says.

Born and raised in Italy, the ruggedly attractive actor says he has in the past declined offers, as he feels the idea of a villain needs a revamp in the Pakistani film industry. “I would receive countless offers to act alongside Shaan and Momi [Moammar Rana], but there was always this feeling that the work being done is not up to standard,” he adds. Perhaps this selective approach is the reason Faisal Bukhari’s Bhai Log is his only major venture to date. However, he believes Waar will be a game-changer for both him and the industry.

“When I met Bilal and was told about the [assassin] character, he had a clear view of how it should be. It was very well-researched and somewhat inspired from real life events. It became easier to bring the character to life.”

Releasing on Eidul Azha, Waar will pair Shaan and Abbasi against each other for the first time. However, the two will also be seen in similar roles in the upcoming Zeba Bakhtiar project Operation 021. “Shaan is already popular and has done a lot of films over the last decade. I don’t know how the combination will work out but I think my main goal is to be part of something that changes the industry,” says Abbasi.

Pitched as a stylish, visual effects-laden action thriller, Waar has created quite a buzz. Abbasi is quick to highlight its pre-release popularity. “This is the first time I have seen such a wave of patriotism surrounding our film industry — it is filling people with hope,” he says.

He appreciates the out-of-the-box approach of talented young director Lashari, who is making his debut in feature films with Waar. He claims to have turned down Bollywood director Vishal Bhardwaj’s offer to act alongside Priyanka Chopra, to stick to Lashari’s vision.

“This is now on the record. He [Vishal Bhardwaj] got a little upset [by my decision] but I explained that it was important for my country. This is the first time a project of this scale is being done and I can’t just ignore it,” says Abbasi.

Directing Dad

Lashari has said that Waar is a movie made for the audience. He says the biggest challenge was to maintain continuity over a period of three years and ensure the film eventually comes together. “We made this for the public. It’s an exciting time for us now and I am glad that it’s finally coming to theatre,” says Lashari.

Apart from Shaan and Abbasi, the film also features budding star Hamza Ali Abbasi and singer, Ali Azmat. Famed bureaucrat Kamran Lashari, who is also the father of the director, will also be playing a role in the film. “My father has been directing me my whole life. I finally got a chance to direct him and I think he was impressive,” adds Lashari.

Waar: ‘Girls can do action sequences, too’

LAHORE:
One would expect Pakistan’s first major action-thriller to keep the fighting scenes focused on male characters. But Waar makers have something different up their sleeves. The film releasing on Eidul Azha features singer-turned-actor Meesha Shafi and TV actor Ayesha Khan, who are all set to show some stellar action stunts.

“I wanted headstrong dominating females in the films,” says producer Hassan Waqas Rana, adding that Khan plays the role of a chief communication and intelligence officer at a counter-terrorism agency. “The girls had to go through rigorous training, and Ayesha had to carry a weapon at all times. So, her way of walking also changed.” Without giving away too much, he adds that Shafi will be seen in a “dominating mode that builds the action of the film.”

Khan plays an overconfident and unapologetic agent. “I wanted to show that girls can do action sequences, too,” she tells The Express Tribune. “For the first time, I got the chance to be part of action sequences and use real weapons.” She adds that due to Waar’s “sophisticated cinematography”, the project will be distinctly different from others.

The actor admits she had to take a break from television which is her forte, but she doesn’t regret the decision one bit as she feels Waar will revive stakeholders’ confidence in the industry. “We all had been working independently for quite some time but this has brought us together for the first time,” says Khan, referring to her co-stars Shaan, Shamoon Abbasi, Shafi, Ali Azmat and Hamza Ali Abbasi.

Waar has been shot primarily in English, a different challenge altogether for actors who have largely done projects in Urdu. “I have always acted in Urdu. I would joke in the middle of the scenes that it’s so hard to cry in English,” she says with a laugh.

Expectations surrounding the movie are mounting up and rightfully so. Waar has been in production for over two years and is finally complete. Cast member Abbasi admits this was bound to happen as the current infrastructure and support are not developed enough to cater to such large-scale projects. “I am certain that this movie will set a [new] standard. It will be the one to watch out for,” he says, proud of the team’s accomplishments.

“For most of us, it was not a professional commitment, but more a commitment of passion,” he continues, adding that the actors have worked hard to make the film as close to reality as possible.

Azmat had turned down several television projects just to be part of Waar as he was enamoured by the freshness of the project, Abbasi reveals. “In my case, I was involved from the beginning, so I grew up with this.

its his personal decision... only he knows.. may be the role was not meaty enough, may be director was not good.. money was not sufficient or he does not want to annoy his fan base.

Bollywood works on demand and supply thing, whatever viewer demand, bollywood supplies.
The producers and financiers are always lookout for ways to make films that make money, hence if something(a product or a actor) works in pakistan, that has certain chance of working in India.
Ever wondered why there is a 'in' fasion thing in bollywood, like somebody starts a stupid item number, and it lifted the whole movie, although the movie was not good, and suddenly all movies have item numbers.
A decade a go, some director got a child to sing a song, it was a hit, suddenly all movies had 1 such song.

Because thats how producers think, and push directors do what they want. Director also does not like a flop movie, and want to hedge bets (if movie is crap but songs are hit, they can recoup lots of money, if there is an item number which is the current 'in' thing, probability of succeeding is higher)

End of day mahesh bhat is also a producer , he is not into philanthropy, cross border bhaichara is just an extra.

He said i quote

“This is now on the record. He [Vishal Bhardwaj] got a little upset [by my decision] but I explained that it was important for my country. This is the first time a project of this scale is being done and I can’t just ignore it,” says Abbasi.

Th
is shows that this indian director wanted him to work on his one then Waar. But i Salute him that he didnt compromised on his country's project for a hifi foreign ones.

Rasheed Niaz is a very senior actor of Dramas and has been in industry since decades. But our real superstar is definitely Shaan.
