We had a transfer over Dubai Airport when we did fly Australia and back home and my experience was rather mixed.
We arrived at Terminal 2 and had to go Terminal 3. The distances are too big and for unexperienced passengers hard to understand. You have to use elevators and some kind of subway to switch between terminals.
You have to pass 2 security checks but it was not understandable why you get screened again before boarding. This also happened only on flight to Australia. When we did fly back no additional check happened before boarding.
There were several tanks with fish in the gate area which is basicly animal cruelity. There is always light during day and night, so the fish can never rest.
Another issue were the toilets. There were not enough toilets at the gate area so long lines of people standing infront them. It did not appear very clean either.
When we landed it took almost 10 minutes till the gangway was attached to the aircraft.
In my expereince it appeared like the airport is above its capacity and UAE are incapable to bring together the amount of people there and the things the airport can offer.
