Q: What is the real need of playing National Anthem before Movie in Cinema?? that question is pounding me like a hammer

b) What are the Indian definitions of recreational activity and leisure time?
c) Dont you think...people in cinema have committed bigger crime of tearing someone Soul instead of helping him out of that bad situation ??

The national anthem video that was played in that movie hall in Mumbai was a tribute to the 26/11 terrorist attack victims and the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation. And a recitation by Farhan Akhtar in the beginning of the video urged the audience to stand up and pay respect. It was a tribute to the unsung heroes of 26/11/2008. Here is the details and the complete video:

Now coming to your questions, human civilization is about following certain rules and norms, as we have progressed and became more developed, these rules and norms have become stricter; curtailing the freedom (to do whatever) that cave dwellers enjoyed. Even animal world follows certain rules, but these are far less than what human beings follow, because they are far less 'civilized' in that sense. These rules and norms can be based on religion, nationalism, regionalism, a smaller group or institution, or just social norms of a particular society. Standing up for the national anthem is one such norm that is followed in most countries including India.

Besides, If one is in a public place, it is expected to follow the generally accepted practices of the people who are present or are running the show, that's a social norm. For example, if you are in a group, or in a public event, and requested to stand up and observe two minutes of silence for the unfortunate death of kids in the Peshawar school attack, you are expected to comply, especially when all around you are doing so...though not doing so is not a crime.

SIgh, of course the writer is a Bengali wh*re. As a Bengali myself, it disappoints me that my ethnicity has no self-respect, and is a bunch of sell-outs writing for an enemy nation's newspapers badmouthing my country.

Sorry to the rest of India on the behalf of my retarded ethnicity :(
Really ashamed of being a Bengali.

Apni ki Banglay thaken? Banglar kon anchale apnar bari? Arekjon bangali dekhe alap korte chaicchi ar ki.

I think India is importing nationalism from North Korea. Who ever dares to criticize India will be tossed in pit of death. So everyboday say this with me.... India is next super power, West imports 5th gen stealth tech from india, and india is perfect. Also dont disturb Indians when they are wet dreaming about LCA being 4.5 gen killer...

. .
what a bullshit logic. My country have thieves so I will not respect it,My country have corruption so I will not respect it. Open your eyes and star respecting India or don't judge us when we question your patriotism.

.
Rape is a crime so is disrespecting the national anthem. You cant argue that since some psycopath did something anti-social with somebody, you will gain right to disrespect India???

I am from those who never tolerate any act of teasing against women. By generalising the acts of those few, you are also disrespecting almost 1.2 billion people (99.99 % Indians) who do not fall in that category.

As one member rightly stated, The RIGHTs hold only as long as you Deliver the DUTIES.

you don't understand... the duties to a state can be expected from a citizen only when he or she has been given a truly democratic, rights-guaranteeing and progressive society by that state's political system, otherwise it becomes the duty of the citizen to work towards bringing a revolutionary change and bring socialism.

even the anglo countries have movements like "occupy" which want to bring socialistic radical change to the political and economic systems there.

like the quotation of rabindranath tagore given in the op, the common indian must discard obscene nationalism and not only look at internal progressive movements like the socialists and the aap but also become internationalist... this is the only way for india to progress... anyone doing so will be the real patriot.

ask value of nation to your Syrian and Libyan brothers. we are living this peaceful life because of our nation.

you forget that patriotic syrians are defending a socialism-governed society that was brought through intellectual and other-means revolution, very unlike the case of india.

"nation" itself can define any nonsense society... for example, the so-called syrian rebels carry as their flag the three star flag that was originally the flag of syria under french colonial authority... this is similar to the the so-called libyan rebels who carried as their flag the one of the pre-1969-revolution monarchic libya under the king idris who was puppet of nato.

so the syrians and the green libyans defend not the nation but the socialist/progressive ideology that brought them harmony and freedom and rights... therefore indians must not defend the indian state just because it is there but seek to evolve it through revolutionary change.

we must seek inspiration from this libyan lady ( A Libyan Girl's Message to Obama & NATO on Their Aggression on Libya.flv - YouTube ).

Despite of being deprived of any rights. Our freedom fighters performed, infact gave away their lives for the nation and nations cause.

You and people like you will never understand the cost of freedom ( freedom not in the form it exists in Pakistan ).

The sacrifice of Bhagat , Subhash and Kalam And Hameed were not not made on the basis of : Let the state do for me , the Citizen will follow. Its the reverse. Its the cost of Freedom.
