US wants IDPs settled before action in Waziristan KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain said on Tuesday that his party wanted to eliminate the menace of sectarianism and extremism from the country and, if voted to power, it would impose a ban on speeches fanning sectarian hatred.
He was speaking at a ceremony held at a hotel here to launch his pictorial biography compiled by Rashid Jamal. The ceremony was attended by intellectuals, diplomats, parliamentarians and businessmen.
The MQM, Mr Hussain said, wanted that anyone found fanning sectarian hatred or branding followers of any other sect infidels should be arrested and given exemplary punishment.
Mr Hussain said the MQM, if voted to power, would take action against people who had got loans of billions of rupees written off. He reiterated the demand of provincial autonomy and said the concurrent list should be immediately abolished.
He demanded an increase in the budget allocation for the people of southern Punjab.
Mr Hussain directed provincial ministers belonging to his party to visit the interior of Sindh along with ministers of the Pakistan Peoples Party to ascertain the hardships faced by the people.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad and City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal also spoke at the ceremony.
