Ummm, verbal abuse.

Another time I remember, a strong bull was about to be slaughtered and everyone gathered round to see it get slaughtered. The bulls leg were tied and he was pushed onto the floor.

The butcher started to cut his head when all of a sudden the bull managed to let his legs loose, the bull got up and started running with his head half cut.

We ran after it while it was running away and after a lot of blood loss the bull fell on the floor. The butcher then finished off the job.

When we were little the occasion used to be called baqr (cow) eid. Has the culture changed that you're now calling it bakraa (goat) eid? Does nobody sacrifice cows anymore?

1. This isn't brutal, in fact it's the most painless way to take their lives, even more than an electric shock.

2. The blood is running everywhere because they've done it in their courtyard and don't have a dedicated drainage system available. Don't worry, they pressure-hose the blood away before it has the time to clot everywhere.

3. Innocent animals all get eaten one way or the other by other innocent animals, this is the way the food chain works. How innocent a speaking bipod is we don't know though!

You're right, this extravagant, showy-off affair that is the cultural qurbani in Pk is in fact a bit contrary to the original teachings. It is supposed to be a humbling experience - you're sacrificing a life you love after you love your own children. If you remember, the whole concept is based on the Abrahamic sunnat of accepting to sacrifice his very own son, and was given a replacement in a ram, something that is not only sacrificed but is exploitable/usable after it has been sacrificed. Remember too than this is the custom of a people who are discouraged to eat meat (how many of us obey is another matter) and for some this is the only annual occasion of having animal protein. And remember as well that this animal sacrifice ended the preceding custom in the days of Abraham AS to sacrifice your own actual sons to the god M???, something that must've been really hard on the mothers.
