Mustafa Jabbar: Bangladesh will lead the 4th industrial revolution

Steve Jabber is a minister, that is a laughable thing to begin with. More laughable than the headline.

Mage is back! (I noticed I could start retagging you just before you appeared hehe). Welcome back buddy.:partay:

You got rid of potatohead?

Welcome back :-)

I never knew what happened...did @Mage go someplace?

@bluesky i think the point @Bilal9 is trying to make here is that we do not have the required expertise to build these simply because there isn't enough local demand for them . And paradoxically, since there is no incentive to manufacture these stuff here, we do not have the required skilled labour force, which takes further incentive away from companies to move or start production here.

So, unless we offer companies really favourable tax rates (and good infrastructure), they don't have any incentive to start producing these here (for export).

Excellent points bhai.

For example - although we don't make buses and trucks from component level locally (assembly only), we still make these marine transports locally because demand exists. The vessel below is the safest riverine water transport locally, and it was made in the Keraniganj dockyards, one of the hundred different smaller dockyards.

Because nobody except you has the keen interest in steam engine.

I dont know if any programming language has any use for anybody unless he/her pursue a study in computer science.. Basic computing and few html based design should suffice in HSC level.

Actually for most of the average coding needs a good knowledge of Java, python or C # is good enough. CS is good for OS , assembly and machine language.

I do not really understand what do you mean by favorable tax rate when the factories that can build big ones are not existing at all because there is no govt initiatives. A company building a large factory by investing quite a few million dollars is not something comes out of ones wishful thinking without the direct govt encouragement and support. Yes, at this stage the companies may demand your favorable tax rate.

There must be a govt body (Party-A) who would nurture an industrial sector under a well-designed scheme. Party A surveys the market to know the demands of products and selects a few contractors for small jobs, guides them by providing international Standards and Codes. The factory/ contractor keeps on receiving govt jobs and develops its own skilled manpower step by step. And in the process, it knows how to complete a big project. This is how the govt nurtures the companies.

This is not happening in BD. BD earns dollars by selling Underwears and uses this money to import foreign-made finished products. This is why the country is unable to produce skilled and experienced people. Skilled labors must be nurtured and gradually they will catch up. I see the country is not progressing but regressing.

For example, after Jamuna Bridge why BD cannot build another one like it? It is because no local big company was nurtured when the bridge site was surveyed, soil parameters were decided, the superstructure was designed, piles were driven, pile caps were cast, piers were erected, and so on.

If the Jamuna Bridge were in Japan, the Japanese would have already built tens like it already.

It will be possible only if Hasina led AL remains on power for at least 15/20 years more.

If other parties come to power then the will start their usual looting and take the country back to the 2003 period.

@bluesky
See its not the technology but the policy support which is the biggest obstacle of car manufacturing in Bangladesh. Govt just dont want car on the street.
Yes, technology can be imported but it will not be manufacturing but a car assembling plant like Pragoti. I do not see how BD can promote import of a reasonable number of body and engine parts paid in dollars. This type of manufacturing is sustainable only if it is mass production.

So, it is possible only when FDI from Japan, S. Korea, or China company invests. Forget about what your video says. Tell me what other options are there?

I must say BD is not ripe for a car manufacturing plant. Its people lack purchasing power and the roads are just insufficient to support producing say 1 million cars a year. The production of a small number is not sustainable because the unit cost will go very high beyond the purchasing power of the people.

Moreover, considering the mindset of BD people the quality will be very low to be shunned by the consumers. BD people think that quality and schedule are decided by Heaven. BD people believe in superstitious fatalism.

A picture of Dhaka road traffic and @TopCat wants to build car factories in BD because some has said so in the video. He wants to build Castle in the sky.

Nowadays most development is heading toward using Java, not c#. That is my impression.

So developers should concentrate on learning Java-based development.

C# is widely used in Automated Testing softwares.

You are talking about automated testing tools?

I am not an IT expert of course, but what my IT developer friends tell me is that it matters less on what the automated testing tool itself is written with (such as C#), and matters more on what type of software testing the tool SUPPORTS (such as those developed with .Net or Java environment).

These days a lot of software development is done in the .NET environment, but in coming years a lot of development is going to shift to Java environment. That is the trend in the US software development community and that is what I was affirming.

To my knowledge, no developer writes virgin code in C# any longer. They copy pieces of freely available code collections such as code libraries (from Microsoft for .NET - for example) to accomplish a software function and join them together to accomplish the software's design goals. Testing comes after the fact which reconfirms the design goals (or not).

Maybe someone more familiar with code development can comment...

Automated Testing software is used to test software functionality. These software mimics the acts of end users, these acts are captured as C# scripts. These are edited to meet the the need of software testing.

C# is used in pretty much every products of Microsoft. It is also in .NET framework. C# is used in almost every product that is supposed to run in Windows and almost in every game that would run in Windows. It has very good documentation and support for developers in MSDN.

Java and C# have coexisted for a long time. And one is not going to replace market of the other.

And it is a bad practice to focus on a certain language based development. Developers have to work with many languages. What is much more important is to learn algorithmic thinking and problem solving. All widely used Programming languages have similar control flow. So, if you have developed algorithmic thinking, you will just have to get used to the syntax to use any language. And learn some design patterns.
