Muslims urged to boycott Russia, China goods on Syria veto

Syria might be, but Syrians are not. 75% of them are Sunni Muslims and they don't like to be ruled by the minority.

Do you think all this mayhem would be going on if their leader was a Sunni? I seriously doubt it, and even if their was public protests against the leader no Arab country would support it. Just like Hosni Mubarak in Egypt.

Actually that is the reason because of which i support Syria.

Sunnis who constitute 74% of Syria would massacre alawites if they come to power.

Of course you will veto it, just like killing 20-30 million Chinese during the great leap and cultural revolution was no big deal. For the rest of us human life is precious and 6000+ killed in a single year is one of the highest death tolls in recent times

The responsibility for loss of life also rests with those who are arming and instigating the opposition.

Assad is willing to hold an election. It is OK to ask for measures to make the election transparent and credible, but it is not OK to encourage the opposition to take unreasonable positions.

Is it true..then its the best way out of this situation. Many here are not fans of democracy but only a free and fair democracy can save Syria now.

US just want to bring another Arab spring in Syria to secure israel. More people wil die if the NATO keeps arming the opposition.

Democracy should not be obtained by sacrificing stability and integrity.

Syrian forces bombarded Homs, killing 50 people in a sustained assault on several districts of the city which has become a centre of armed opposition to Assad.

About 400 protesters threw objects and tried to storm the Syrian consulate in the Turkish city of Istanbul Sunday, Xinhua reported.

The demonstrators chanted slogans against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Police fired tear gas to disperse the protesters in front of the consulate located in Nisantasi area of Istanbul.

A report said the attack on the consulate took place following the news of shelling in Homs, which the Syrian opposition said claimed the lives of over 200 civilians.

Homs is one of the main centres of the opposition in Syria.

Turkish foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu made a statement in response to the Homs attack, calling on the UN to take a clear and precise position on the subject of loss of civilian lives.

In a retaliatory move against the West, Syria has quietly freed al-Qaida's operations chief in Europe and the London 7/7 bombings mastermind after keeping him in detention for six years, a media report said.

Abu Musab al-Suri, who had a $4.75 million pound US state department bounty on his head, has been freed from a Syrian jail, The Telegraph newspaper reported.

Al-Suri alias Mustafa Setmariam Nasar, identified as al-Qaida's operations chief in Europe, is accused of planning the London bombings in 2005 that killed 52 people, the Madrid train bombings in 2004 which left 191 dead and an attack on the Paris Metro in 1995.

He had been held in Syria, his country of birth, for six years after being captured in Pakistan, the paper said.

But his release is now said to have come as a warning to Western allies, the United States and Britain, about the consequences of turning their backs on the embattled Syrian regime of President Bashar al-Assad, the paper said.

I don't think France is a western stooge..but whatever.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Saturday condemned China and Russia's veto of a UN Security Council resolution on the Syria crisis, saying it encouraged the Syrian regime crackdown.

"The Syrian tragedy must stop," said Sarkozy in a statement issued through his office.

Sarkozy "strongly deplores the fact that because of the vote of two permanent members (of the UN Security Council) and despite the support of 13 other members, the Security Council was unable, for the second time," to express itself.

Since March 2011, "the Damascus regime has only responded to the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom and democracy with fierce repression and endless promises," the statement added.

Earlier, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe denounced China and Russia's veto, saying it "paralysed" the international community.

You do know that Pakistan voted FOR this resolution along with India and US and the resolution was sponsored by the Arab league about 20+ Muslim majority countries and turkey.

So all of these are anti Muslim but china that doesn't even allow freedom of worship is better than them? You really need to come out of you inferiority complex. Even your current govt. Has enough self respect to stand up to China and vote for this resolution.

There there.. Ejaz has successfully burst a lot of bubbles..

We still lack the power projection comparing to US.

We can build an air force comparable to the USAF in the next 5 years and a comparable navy to the USN in the next 10-15 years.

However, the situation of Syria is right now in front of us, the distant water cannot destroy the fire nearby.

Although its a bit of offtopic, will the US just sleep for this 10-15 years with their nearly a 600+billion dollar defence budgets?? Six gen, unmanned ACs & Serious radder jamming sh!t is coming out from US in not very distant future. At the moment, the world can cry out loud about US's falling economics and what not, but IMHO, all can only play catch up game with US for maybe next hundred years.

As far as Syria is concerned, I can see a good response from US (and the EU + May be GCC) is on the offing soon against the double veto (Power projection & sh!t). Like they did with the parade of bouble AC carriers along with British frigates in the strait of Hormuz.

But then, its all speculation only.

It is Syria domestic problem, they should solve it by themself. 6000 thousand insurgent or civillian being killed?

Insurgent is civilian?

Lets not be this naive!! A country with very little history of terrorism, all of a sudden (in a year) produced thousands & thousands of terrorists???

Although US (and the Arab league countries) are not all milk and honey, one cannot & should not completely ignore the serious sh!t going inside Syria today.

Just heard about the bombing of the hospital (Killing doctors, medical stuff & patients together) in Homes. That's some serious sh!t going on here.

Insurgent is civilian?

It depends on whether the insurgents are aligned with or opposed to western interests.

In this way, they can be conveniently classified as terrorists or freedom fighters; militants or civilians.

However there is also a temporal dimension to this classification. The same individual who fights against Soviet Union will be once classified as a freedom fighter but when he fights against NATO invasion, his status will be adjusted to being a terrorist.

The Arab spring was a common man's uprising over decades of atrocities done by the dictators. The common people demanding a regime change and looking for a better life are not the terrorists, the dictators trying to suppress them brutally are... The international community cannot be mute witnesses these atrocities.

This year will be tough. Best of luck.

If Syria and Iran survive this year, they will survive permanently.
I think next year will be even more critical especially if Mitt Romney becomes president in January 2013. Obama does not want to attack Iran for Israel.
