‘Muslims need to assimilate into Europe’

.
when in a foreign country it is not like that u have to leave ur religion or believes but one should keep his/her religion, believes & culture under wraps. do not flaunt these things everywhere.

.
just one question.....if the europrans go to soudi an the likes and flaunt their cultur would the soudi govt accept it?

No... but then again countries like KSA, Pakistan etc don't carry the 'burden' of secularism that many countries like India carries.

I guess to respect each others culture or religious practices.....:)

Better keep religion at home.

Can you explain what you mean "under wraps"? - By being a Muslim Hindu or Jew and for example wearing a kippah - is that flaunting religion? I think one must be careful. In my opinion as long as it doesn't disrespect the laws of the land and or doesn't affect other peoples lives (like for example praying in the middle of the streets etc) then one shouldn't hide away your cultural beliefs.

yes they need to...but unfortunately after 9/11 they have started wearing religion on their sleeves...even the previously-non religious ones...

when i say under wraps it means do not talk abt ur religion, believes & culture unless other person is asking abt it. wearing muslim cap is ok but not everything. many south asians would not like to see a bikini clad white women in streets of south asia only for the sake of culture of hers.

Im sorry you may be incorrect in your assumptions - far from it. Due to the extremists and their betrayals and crimes Muslims in Europe and im talking about the majority have put their beliefs on a back burner and are desperate to confirm and show that due to ther actions of a few the vast Muslims are peaceful law abiding citizens who have no interest in disrespecting their hosts.

What do you think Muslims do? Go knocking on doors to shower their beliefs and thoughts on other people? Far from it - Christians and in particular Jehovah witnesses do that. We in general don't talk about our religion.

Off course - the milk has never turned sour in India?
u
I am not claiming that. We are not perfect. We had Gujarat riots and Babri Masjid. But if you notice the pattern you see a great culmination there. Except PM almost every major post has been done by a Muslim including Cricket and Bollywood most favorite things in India.

The same goes for Hindus and Jews - both communities respect the laws of the land and don't openly preach their beliefs on others.

I would argue that 'assimilation' should be defined as respecting the constitution, systems and processes in place in a nation that one lives in.

However, most democratic political systems also allow for 'amendments to the constitution' and 'changes to existing laws, systems and processes' through constitutionally defined means - so while one should respect existing laws and the constitution, that does not mean that one cannot advocate and campaign, legally and constitutionally, for changes to the existing constitution and laws.

'Adopting native cultural and society norms' should not be considered an essential part of 'assimilation' in the context we are using. Wearing a burqa, hijab, headscarf, turban etc. (or not) should not be considered as 'alien' or damaging to a nation where the socio-cultural norms are more liberal and non-religious. That said, refusing to remove a Burqa/face covering in order for identification documents to be made definitely falls in the category of not respecting local laws and processes.

when i say all religions it means all religions. i don't know why this small thing is not getting in ur head. it will be better for u to throw away ur religious glasses.
