Muslims have found an alternative in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as the consolidation of around 13 per cent Muslims in Delhi has helped the party win a record-breaking 67 seats in the 70-member House.
There has been a remarkable shift of Muslim voters from being Congress’s traditional supporters to forming the AAP’s base in the city. Though the number of Muslims in fray for the Assembly polls reduced significantly as compared to 2013, they voted in favour of AAP sweeping out the BJP completely.
There are at least five constituencies in Delhi where Muslims are a decisive factor as the population of the community in these areas is more than 40 per cent. These constituencies are Matia Mahal and Ballimaran in Old Delhi, Mustafabad and Seelampur in northeast Delhi and Okhla in south Delhi.
Barring Mustafabad, where the BJP has won with a moderate margin of 6,031 votes, the rest four constituencies have given a clear mandate to AAP with a margin of over 25,000 votes.
On three seats, Seelampur, Okhla and Ballimaran, the Congress has been pushed to the third position with the BJP superseding it at the second position. Okhla, where Muslim count is 60%, was captured by AAP’s Amanatullah Khan.

No harm

In fact its good, all people including minorities must have a voice who speaks for them. It shall prevent them from getting polarised under a hardline party.
