Muslims are among Britain’s most generous givers, topping a poll of religious groups that donate to charity, according to new research.

Muslims who donated to charity last year gave an average of almost £371 each, with Jewish givers averaging just over £270 per person.

Nearly one in ten of Jewish givers donated more than £1,000. Among Muslim givers, most donated between £300 and £500.

Atheists, by contrast, donated an average of £116 when they gave to charity, with Roman Catholics giving slightly more than £178, other Christians slightly less than £178 and Protestants £202.

Don't know elsewhere..but in India Muslims donate to themselves..They have thousands of charite run organization's. .Every madrassa takes donation for Muslims.

Its not necessary to give it to muslims. It is to give it to anyone in need so yes they do.

Most scholars say that Zakat is for Muslims only but Sadqa can be given to any one. In fact helping any one who is poor weather Muslim or not Muslim is encouraged. ALLAH in one Surah has shown lot of anger towards those who not only just don't help people themselves but also don't encourage others.

It is simply part of our religion. Simple. Zakat is a must, khairat has been made equivalent to trading with God and has been promised a return of ten times and sadqa has been told to fend of great troubles and evil. Then their are mannats as well...

It has become part of us and has made us extremely charitable... Another example is that the EDHI foundation runs solely on public donations and no govt nor foreign aid and yet its the largest humanitarian organization in Pakistan...

If i may correct you bhai, Zakat is NOT tax. It is a pillar of Islam and the nearest English definition is 'obligatory charity'. There is tax in Islamic Economics but this is has nothing to do with it.
