BANGALORE: This is one infamy Bangalore could have done without.
The city ranks next only to New Delhi in the crime against women
statistics. The latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report for 2011 shows
that Bangalore has witnessed 1,890 instances of crime against women.
This accounts for 5.6% of such crime in the country. The corresponding
numbers for New Delhi stood at 4,489 cases and 13.3%. Snapping at
Bangalore's heels is Hyderabad: 1,860 cases and 5.5%. The warning signs that the city was becoming unsafe for women were
always there. Two BCom students were riding back home after
Christmas carol session one evening last year. They were accosted by a
group of hoodlums who tied up the boy and sexually assaulted the girl
in front of him in a cemetery on Berlie Street, off Hosur Road. There was a hue and cry over the incident as it was grim reminder
how city was not safe for women. Police arrested the culprits in less
than a week and claimed that the incident was only an aberration. NCRB statistics now nail the police claim. The number of crime cases
against women in the city in 2010 was 1,590 and constituted 6.5% of
the national number. Besides, the city figured third among the cities in
the category. But police are still not ready to describe the situation as alarming. A
senior police officer said: "The increase in the number of cases reported
should be looked at in a different way. People are more aware of the
need for reporting such crimes and they are coming forward to do so." He, however, admitted: "But I don't think this is enough. Still there are
many more cases to be addressed and if we are able to punish all those
people, it will act as a strong deterrent." The rising crime against women in Bangalore may be a new
phenomenon. But the largest share of the crime is traditional in nature:
of 1,890 instances of crime against women, 458 were cruelty by
husband in the domestic sphere. There were 250 cases of molestation,
206 cases of kidnapping, 97 cases of rape, 53 cases of dowry death and
40 cases of sexual harassment. In 74 of the 97 rape cases reported in 2011, victims were in the age
group of 18-30 and 47 rapists knew their victims earlier. Protection of the Rights of the Christian Minorities in Mangalore
It is with extreme anguish and distress that we have learnt of the unconstitutional, unprovoked and shameful attacks on the utterly innocent, peace-loving and patriotic Christian community of Mangalore. The manner in which our churches and the Most Blessed Sacrament (considered to be the living and perpetual symbol of Our Lord Jesus Christ) were desecrated and shamefully attacked have once again brought tears to our eyes.
While we have received with much gratitude expressions of solidarity from many members of the majority and minority communities both in India and internationally, we find the response of our Government woefully inadequate and biased towards the perpetrators of these shameful and hateful crimes. We must emphasise therefore with one voice our rights to live as equal citizens of India with full dignity and with our constitutional rights intact.
The timing and meticulous planning and subsequent police brutalities on the peaceful Catholic community including for the very first time in independent India on catholic nuns have pointed out unmistakably to possible collusion with certain members of the State Government. This general impression which we have with great pain conveyed to concerned members of the national and international community is supported by the inadequate action taken and possible immunity given towards the vandals who have damaged and desecrated our Churches.
Once again the State has failed in its duty to protect the rights of Christians - to protection of life and personal liberty and to freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion the very rights enshrined in the Constitution of the country (Articles 21 & 25) and in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR Articles 18 & 27) to which the Government of India is a party.
In this context, we appeal to you, Sir, to initiate suitable measures so as to:
Enact legislation criminalizing such organizations that sponsor and support hate crimes.
Ensure justice by initiating action to arrest the perpetuators of these hate crimes and free the innocent Christians who have been victims of police brutality sometimes in our very Churches
Protect the rights and the lives and the properties of Christians in Karnataka and the rest of India .
Provide immediate relief and adequate compensation to the victims as per ICCPR Article 2.3.1
Ensure peace and harmony in the State so that people may live without fear and freely practise their faith.
We appeal to your conscience to take necessary measures to ensure that our great country provides safety, dignity and safeguards human rights of all its citizens.

Mangalore especially has multiple religious tensions - Extreme Christian elements playing dirty propaganda, extreme hindu elements conducting moral policing banning the Valentine's day celebrations, getting into bars and attacking people, attacking churches, this PFI muslim organization conducting moral policing like this incident. Tight laws are needed as well as enforcement of it. These people are trouble for everyone.

What statistics and articles are you talking about?? The number of incidents happen because of religious tensions compare to robbery?? Or how many Hindus killed compared to Muslims?? If you want me to come up with some logical arguments first post something which is logic..

Banglore is very very peaceful compared to other parts of karnataka. Girls are much dafe compared to other patt. I can bet. I live ther since lsdt 5 years
