Musharraf supporting Shiites over Sunnis

A lot of factual inaccuracies there:

1. Shiites and sunnis have been living peacefully all this while. Go through all the incidents its been happening all this while.

2. Gave rise to Mullahs... By attacking Mullahs? No. We had the same amount of Mullahs before as well. They've just stopped fighting each other to fight a common enemy, Musharraf. Musharraf just was the first one to challenge their writ. Earlier PMs would never risk upsetting the mullah and find himself on the receiving end of a Friday sermon.

3. Enlightened Moderation = Liberalism? Actually no. This is a message of tolerance. It's what we promote here at this forum too. We can tolerate the opposing point of view, the opposing thought, and even the opposition's criticism. No where has Musharraf propagated enlightened moderation to be equated with liberalism let alone ultra liberalism.

He might drink on occasions but he has never pushed the Pakistani public to do so. He has always given them a choice. A choice that the mullahs and the former PMs weren't ready to give to the people who elected them.

I repeat Enlightened Moderation is not about a liberal lifestyle but tolerance of everybody's choices.

If Geo is a Shia promotion machine, then its a private TV channel. It has every right to do so. Shias just as Sunnis have every right to promote their religion. But seriously I think Mir Khalil ur Rehman is not Shia. I would appreciate you backing up your claims with evidence.

I dont think so the owner of Jang-Geo is a Shia. Even if he is how is the program alim online running in calm. The host is a sunni. There is a shia sunni alim sitting side by side. Ary is definately not owned by a shia. Even if they are owned by shia i do not think it makes any difference. At this time and in the future Sunnis especially Brailvi's and Shia's are absolutely fine with each other. However whats going on in your mind is due to any wrong messages spread most likely by Wahabis. Musharraf is supporting enlightened moderation and if shias are coming forward with investment in media then its not his fault.

In my time, whenever you wanted to discredit somebody you started a rumour that he is a Qadiani. The poor man could no way go to every one and prove that he wasn't. It happened to a close friend, he was Terminal Manager in Esso and some people didnt like him so they started a whisper that he was a Qadiani ( Mirzai). When it came to me I was amazed; I knew the guy and his whole family for years, even had offered Eid prayers to gether. I knew very well that he was Sunni. Never the less the rumour was hard to kill.

BJP came to power in India on the belief by high class Indians that Congress was favouring minorities and muslims over Hindus. Have you forgotton high class Hindu students self immolating themselves because of the quota reserved for the minorities?? Or the famous Advani Rath Yatra swearing to build RAM's temple on the very place of Babri mosque.

Whether you like it or not, BJP came to power by inciting sectarian hatred ( which included a compaign against the Christians as well) and by exploiting the inherent prejudice of high class Hindus against Dalits and Muslims. Are you also going to deny that BJP is a party of Tilak, Tarazu and Talwar ?? ( all high class Hindus). BJP had to form a coalition because they didnot muster enough votes, but it became the single largest party by exploiting religious hatred.

Look at the main parties that form BJP; VHP, Shiv Sena, RSS, Bajrang Dal, all sectarian and strongly anti muslim. In Punjab who are the BJP Allies ? Akali Dal !. Akali Dal was originally formed 300 years ago with the sole aim to kill the "musselman". George Fernandez 's party is the only party which is not overtly sectarian and a BJP ally.

Let us not be afraid to call a spade a spade. BJP is, was and remains a sectarian party with most of its leaders as bigots ( Narinder Modi is an angel in your eyes ??). I am disappointed in the Indian middle class who voted BJP to power. According to my reading of Indian politics, BJP stands for everything that Mahatma Gandhi abdhored and fought against all his life. When in an earlier post I said that I liked Krishna Menon; it was because old politicians who started their carrier in the pre-independence times were with very few exceptions; honest, secular and tolerent and with very high personal integrity. Something missing these days specially from the BJP government ( Please dont argue that "Tehalka.com" revealations are all made up).

You and every other Indian has full rights to vote for whatever party for whatever reason. This will however, not alter the fact that BJP is the very antithesis of the Indian secularism which; a lot of people in Pakistan and all over the world honour and respect.

I have to agree with you compeltly, But you are a bit off the mark in the Reservation issue.

We need sources please tell us where you are getting your information. Musharraf will do anything it takes to get support for enough people so that he be untouchable by the government, trying to please could be something he is aiming for but I doubt it because along with rest of Pakistan the Shia suffered a lot under Musharraf's dictatorship.
