KARACHI: Former President General (retired) Pervez Musharraf has said that a conspiracy has been hatched against the army based on the fact, If you want to weaken Pakistan then weaken the army and this is what happening now.
In an interview to British Radio, General (retired) Pervez Musharraf said that he during his tenure had ordered the intelligence agencies to keep themselves aloof from politics and added we had decided that secret agencies must not indulge/interfere in politics.
Responding to a question relating to the registration of cases and investigations against the army, he said that a conspiracy was being hatched against the army based on the fact that if you want to weaken Pakistan then weaken the army and this is what happening now.
Musharraf said US drone strikes mostly killed terrorists in tribal areas adding some from the general public also fallen victim to it, but their number was being exaggerated. He re-iterated that he had no written or verbal agreement with the US regarding the drone strikes and he had been lodging protests on these attacks with US President Bush.
He said that opening the old cases was not a good thing and advised forget the past to keep focusing on the present and the future.
