Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf held a six-hour long marathon meeting with his top aides at his Dubai residence to supposedly kick off his campaign to return to Pakistani politics.

According to a report in the Pakistani daily The News International, the meeting in Dubai on Saturday was the first such meeting with his top aides.

Quoting sources, the report said that the former president vowed to return to Pakistan during the Dubai meeting aimed at chalking out his return strategy.

Musharraf who was critical of both Nawaz Sharief and President Asif Ali Zardari said that the condition within Pakistan was way far better compared to the present.

Among the issues that was discussed include the timetable for his return to Pakistan and the launch of the political party.

Musharraf who is said to have been very confident about his return also said that he was willing to face any legal proceedings against him and would even face jail if a fair trial was conducted.

He also expressed confidence that the army would provide him security on his return within coming months.

Musharraf is also reported to have said that he would raise his own private security if the military was under any constraints not to provide him security.

Among those who attended the meeting include former foreign minister Khurshid Kusuri, Hamid Nasir Chattha, Ishaq Khan Khakwani, Raza Hiraj, Ch Shahbaz, Barrister Saif, Ch Fawwad, Dr Amjad, Lt Gen (retd) Muzaffar, ex-QMG, and Maj-Gen (retd) Rashid Quershi.

Interestingly, it is almost three years after former Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto planned her return to Pakistani politics from her Dubai residence. Musharraf was the president of Pakistan then.

Benazir was killed soon after her return to Pakistan and

Pakistan was progressing well under Musharraf and that is what makes me remember him fondly. There is bias in my opinion but I find him to be best we had in a long time and would be very happy to see him in power again.

Though he made mistakes but if we can allow Sharif and Zardari to return, Musharraf should also be given another chance.

There is a lot of support for Musharraf among different ethnic groups that I have noticed. We need a leader like him who unifies all and not play sectarian or an ethnic card. Musharraf might be accused of such but overall, I see a better leader in him than anyone else.

China and Pakistan having the best years (relationship) during General Musharraf's era, "the only VIP visiting our J-10 production site ever"
To Chinese people, the most trusted and beloved Pakistan leader period. :china::cheers::pakistan:

i found your comment quite ammusing..... while never we saw gilani, zardari, sharif etc. on tv. only their file photo/recording.
no one in Pakistan know if all those statements associated to zardari and gilani were actually ever said by them.
never had i seen zardari and sharif adressing public as Musharraf use to do, frequently.
no one seemed to feel connected with current leadership....

Musharraf is villainized, he can't make it back just like that.

He needs to find allies in Pakistani politics. He is too old to build a new base of politicians.

That's definitely not true, I've seen pretty much all ethnic groups support him. If you go on his facebook page you'll see all different types of people on there. You shouldn't generalize

It was a succesful meeting ... another step in making All Pakistan Muslim League a true political force.

I think Mr Mushi should answer our difficult questions - ie why did he sign up for the WOT without getting public views ??

We have paid a heavy price for his decision , 30 Thousand innocent Pakistanis died just because of his dazed Decision- lets say "No Thank you" to Mr Dictator.

.
We need him back and sure hope he comes back he was our true leader .

.
My only complaint is with his Parties name... How many Muslim Leagues do we have now? Couldn't he come up with something more constructive and instead of Muslim league have a name that everyone in Pakistan even non muslims can associate with.

Something like Liberal Democratic Party ?

Think about the practicalities.

The media hates him, all the top journos are aiming to get him hanged. He too wasn't very nice to them when in power. They won't let his unpopularity turn and keep him villainized.

But even pigs can fly in Pakistan.
