On what basis has he been disqualified? The ECP and the judicial tribunal seem pretty out of synch with the basic legal premise of "innocent until proven guilty". Having a case or two against you does not disqualify one. I could go open up a case against any candidate tomorrow but that cannot be used to disqualify them unless the courts prove they are indeed guilty as charged.

Musharraf cannot be found guilty of the takeover and holding the constitution in abeyance since this was all endorsed and allowed by the then SC bench. The 2007 emergency also cannot be taken into consideration just on its own because the actions taken to declare emergency are not illegal in isolation. The only way one can claim the 2007 emergency was illegal is if it can be proven that Musharraf's first takeover was illegal. Otherwise by 2007, due to the SC approval of his takeover in 1999, he was the defacto President of Pakistan and it was his PML-Q government that declared the state of emergency, which is also allowed under the constitution (Indra Gandhi, as the elected PM, did the same and was allowed to participate in subsequent elections.)

So the disqualification is on very shaky grounds. In my view, either way this works to Musharraf's advantage. If he is disallowed on such flimsy ground, which has no legal basis, then it adds to his popularity and actually may give him time to either better organize his party for future political activism or allows him to go into permanent retirement.

If he is soo confident of his innocence then let him file an appeal against this decision and give proof that he is innocent. after all same happened with sharif bradran and imran khan. cases were filed against them, they brought proof and were made eligible. his lawyer is saying they will go to supreme court then let him go their and give his evidence of his innocence.

Personally i would advice him to quit while he is ahead. If he cannot provide such evidences then things can go worse and thus he will get in more trouble. The next few days will be interesting.

Like orion hunter said eligible or not aside, i highly doubt he would have become a PM or president.

Well how the hell did he a build a farm house in one of the most expensive cities. His wife was loaded with Tons of gold when he left. No one is a saint in pakistani politics so stop trying to portray him as one. You can rather argue that he took 25% to fill his stomach and spent 75% on pakistani people.
