Pakistani members,

Have you guys experienced altitude sickness when visiting Murree? Murree is 7,516 ft above sea level making it over a mile and a half high above sea level. People here in the US have experienced altitude sickness when visiting Denver, CO a city which is just 5,000+ ft high a mile above sea level. Many people will begin to experience altitude sickness at 8,000 ft high.

Just curious to know how you guys felt when traveling to Murree and if so how long did it take you to acclimate to the elevation.

nop never......
Never heard of it from any body else visiting muree...
Motion nausea yes...due to twisting turning road and a bad driver...

.
No Such thing i visited Muree! No sickness reported by any of my family member Not me either!

.
We went Muree once & never had any kind of sickness, infact the atmosphere was amazingly unpolluted, clean & fresh.

.
Never happened to me either, heck, never even heard of anyone else having it.

.
Alright thanks for your input guys, I suppose in other towns and villages in higher elevations that are approximately 8,000 feet high the altitude sickness is more prevalent.

Atmosphere there is very clean and fresh and at the elevation of Murree which is 7,500+ ft high atmosphere becomes considerably thinner than atmosphere at sea level.

Yes that's what I was thinking you will feel a subtle change in heart rate, some people experience headaches and other symptoms especially when you exert yourself in Murree as in exercise-jogging or some other physical activity you will feel heart is pumping more than usual because thinner atmosphere means less oxygen therefore heart has to pump more for the same amount of oxygen it would need at sea level. Body can take weeks to acclimate for some people at that elevation.

By the way does anybody which city in Pakistan has the highest elevation? I checked Chitral and Gilgit they both have elevations lower than Murree.

Most people who are fit and have good cardiovascular health should be fine at 8,000 feet elevation. Though some who are less than fit or haven't exercised in awhile will feel affects of altitude sickness.

I don't know..I used to hike 4000 feet up every other week to thandiani near abbottabad, but never had ant such experience...
In my opinion Altitude sickness can be felt 10,000 feet or above but not below...
The cabin pressure of passenger aircrafts is set at 7000-8000 feet and passengers don't feel altitude sickness...or do they?

Altitude sickness can be felt at approximately 8,000 feet high above sea level, this is standard height where altitude sickness tends to occur for most people.

Murree being close to the 8,000 ft high benchmark is a potential area for AS.

If you're a hiker you should be adequately conditioned for the altitudes of 8,000 ft high, the concern is for those who live in low elevations close to sea level traveling to a high elevation close to 8,000 feet high.

Here in Hazara division, we don’t even consider Murree as high point…….Thandiani and Nathia Gali are actually high points…….and since we local travel to these places very frequently, never heard of anyone mentioning fatigue or altitude sickness…….at 8-9k ft, my guess is it’s more of a personal fitness than altitude itself.

^ You are acclimated to high elevation. I have never visited Thandiani or Nathia Gali but will visit some day.
