Munir Akram to replace Maleeha Lodhi as Pakistan's envoy to UN

I have watched some debates or discussions between Pakistani and afghan diplomats. (anyone interested can search YouTube). My God how embarrassed I was at the incompetence of our foreign office personnel. Our people don't know how to talk without apologizing. No fire or desire to fight back, utterly lacking any pride in your nation. Someone needs to give them lessons on verbal combat. They need to improve greatly. They are our first line of defense, much neglected and frowned upon but still a vital component of our state craft
Yup..many are a let down esp against India.

. .
We need to come out of appologist mode and take GanguFascism head on.

MunirAkram understands the overall Geopolitical Landscape of the Eursian Dynamcis... would help us to coordinate with China and Russia much more effectively.

Now the FO also needs some T-levels boosters...

Our strategy of Containment of GanguFacism needs to become even more agressive... PMIK has opened the game and now it is upto StateFunctionaries to take it forward on all Diplomatic avenues.

So we are talking business here. Although, don't have enough on Munir Akram but I will observe the reaction to decide as he goes onto this. No doubt, the area he is being dispatched, is now taking more heat especially since Pakistan has raised the bar high at diplomatic front.

between 2002 and 2008.

will have to evaluate under the tenure as such.

.
Evaluate them on their performance, every six or 12 months. Must light some fire under their feet. They are too used to under performing and getting substantial perks at the expense of our poor nation.
We must weed out the dead wood, and there is a lot of that in every sphere of life in Pakistan. In this new world old crap won't cut it anymore. They must raise their standards else the western and indian diplomats will eat them alive....

Also there needs to be a dedicated 4 year university program for those people who are aspiring to join Foreign Office. Instead of the present BS where a moron who is a 14 class pass later passes CSS test, know nothing about history, IR etc except those one or two books which were needed during CSS and were read and then is given a post in foreign office.

I agree with you. Later there needs to be a complete evaluation after every 6-12 months. Any FO bureaucrat that has apologetic/pacifist/lazy tendencies should be shown the door after that evaluation.

I always wonder why can't a nation of 220 million people produce some brilliant, agressive diplomats....

.
Absolutely we need to fight on diplomatic front and make up for 15 years of shoddy diplomacy that gave Pakistan nothing but problems.

Great move, we need more aggressive and dynamic personalities to be In foreign office.

Maleeha lodhi is like a leech. She always manages to secure the most covered diplomatic posts in the west. she has spent most of the past two decades in the US and UK. Look for her to find a fat new assignment somewhere in wester Europe. Woman is mediocre at best.
Post her some where in Africa and see how quickly she will resign.

She should be sent to South Africa.

In a significant reshuffle in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the appointment of ambassador Munir Akram as Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, the Foreign Office announced on Monday.

Akram will replace Dr Maleeha Lodhi, who has held the office of Pakistan's envoy to the UN since February 2015.

Akram has previously served as Pakistan's permanent representative to the UN as well, holding the office for six years between 2002 and 2008.

here comes inter services man

I guess IK fired Lodhi. She was the one who held those fake pictures of Syrian or some other girl saying they were Kashmiri. Indians raised up much noise on this.

.
This is the era wherein you will see tough and aggressive representative. These days goody two-shoes along with defeatist attitude will do no good to you. I reckon Khan has realized it, therefore made this move, which I support.

Read op-ed by Munir Akram: PM on the world stage

The sudden announcement comes a day after Prime Minister Imran and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi returned to Pakistan after wrapping up their visit to the United States to attend the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.

During his “Mission Kashmir” visit to New York, the prime minister addressed the 193-member UNGA, attended UN summit meetings, met a number of world leaders on the sidelines of the session including US President Donald Trump, addressed think-tanks and interacted with international media. Ambassador Lodhi accompanied the premier at a number of these engagements.

The government did not provide a reason for the replacement of Dr Lodhi. She has not been assigned any other portfolio as of now.

Following the announcement, Lodhi took to Twitter to say that she is grateful to have had the opportunity to represent the country for over four years.

"Representing Pakistan at the world’s most important multilateral forum was a great privilege," she wrote, adding that she "had planned to move on after UNGA following a successful visit by the PM"

"I am humbled by the appreciation I have received for the PM’s visit and the support I have also received over the years. I wish my successor Munir Akram the best of luck!" she said in a subsequent tweet.

It is not their fault. These CSS pass bureaucrats should have never been there in the first place. Induction in foreign services should be based on the pattern of America/British.

Our foreign service personnel are not groomed in the way they should be groomed.

There are gems in every country. The question is how do we train and groom them. Nobody is born with a plethora of knowledge. When your priority is making money and business, the state goes down, e.g Pakistan

CSS system should be abolished for people who want to come in foreign service.
