War Sustainability and Attrition Rates: In South Asia, it is India by virtue of its various power attributes, economic resources and industrial infrastructure that has an immense power comparatively to engage in war and have sustaining power for long periods. India also has the capability to withstand heavy military attrition rates both in men and material.

Pakistan's capabilities in this regard are severely limited. Without political and moral support, financial infusions and deliveries of military hardware from its external strategic patrons, Pakistan is not capable of withstanding more than a 14 day War despite its 45 days strategic reserves.

To implement this concept, two strike corps backed by a defensive corps are to be used. It factors in the likelihood of India opening another front, in which case Pakistan would deploy its reserves for a riposte at a place of its own choosing, thus blunting the Indian counter-offensive. Since this concept is predicated on a high level of reserves, the army created a strong centralized corps of reserve formations in the 1990s, in order to guard its critical semi-desert and desert sectors in Punjab and Sindh province. These formations were equipped and trained to perform both offensive and defensive roles. The enabling factor for this concept was also the increase in war stamina, i.e., reserve of fuel and ammunition to sustain a war. It was over 45 days as compared to 11 days and seven days during 1965 and 1971 wars, respectively.2 The bolstering of the arms inventory of Pakistan owing to supplies by the US and China during the period of war against Soviet forces in Afghanistan also contributed to formulation of offensive-defence doctrine.

Pakistan's Offensive-Defence Strategy

So, one wonders who is only a cobbler!

Mukhtar, even if he is a cobbler is only quoting Beg's Offensive Defence Strategy and the strategic reserve as formulated by Beg himself!

Beg is doing what is wont - living in a state of denial since I presume that is prudent at this juncture.

Therefore, before reporting me as a troll, educate yourselves!

I hope that settles the controversy of Muktar and his 45 days strategic reserve and his thinking being that of a cobbler.
