Mujib’s memoirs - Hamid Mir

Lo! the comparison begins again!

Is there anything that Bangladesh can produce but PK can't? I got only one thing which is manufactured in BD but not in PK. That is Human Insulin.

Currently Bdsh is doing good & Pakistan appriciates that but why compare with Pakistan?

Both countries are in different league, both have different problems(Bdsh don't even have a grain of the problems what Pakistan is facing)

In a long run i can see Pakistan's future bright.

Pakhtuns become angry if you call them Pakistani? They have one of the largest percentages in our army and they are ones who did Kashmir operation... Maybe u are talking about Pathans of Afghan

He is talking alot of nonsense & funny things, dunno who feeds him all this. lol

Who tells you all this B.S cr@ps? lol. I'm not consider equal Pakistani? There were no conditions on me when i was in Karachi, i was a free Pakistani citizen just like any other Pakistani. Pakhtuns become angry if you call them Pakistani, lol? Try saying this in front of Hyperion, Jana, AstonashKhan, Abu Zulfiqar, Taimi Khan, etc on this forum. I don't know who feeds you all this. West Pakistan has 47% population & 53% in East part where as West Pakistan has almost 90% land & hence large borders to defend.

Who told you that??? West Pakistan had 50 million population and East Pakistan had 75 million population. But for this majority people only 33% of the budget used to be allocated which was making the country poorer and poorer and after 1960s even per capita gdp was falling.

Why we don’t need a Mohajir province

Why we don’t need a Mohajir province – The Express Tribune Blog

If MQM, the 3rd largest political party of Pakistan, is speaking against the idea of a new province, it can easily be deduced that the idea has no political support. PHOTO: PPI

A dormant phenomenon has recently become active; the movement for a separate province for the Mohajir people. This movement was pioneered by the Mohajir Rabita Council - a political movement which started in Hyderabad, Sindh.

It should be noted that it is not just the Mohajir community that is asking for their rights; Pakistan’s history is loaded with separatist tendency right from 1947.

An excellent research paper is presented by Mohammed Waseem, titled “The Political Ethnicity and the State of Pakistan”. Mohammed Waseem talks about the separatist tendencies which grew in the Baloch, Sindhi, Mohajir, Bengali, and Pashtoon people of Pakistan. He also outlines their aims and highlights what was achieved.

It is against this background that the Mohajir province movement evolved. The Mohajir Rabita Council has been holding large rallies for the disintegration of Sindh and has also published a new map.

This map includes all the important districts of lower Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, and Mirpurkhas, in the Mohajir province that is being demanded. These districts are the economic engine of Sindh.

This brings me to the question, is the Mohajir province even feasible in the present conditions?

I don’t think so.

The centralist attitude by the rulers of Punjab is not a major problem any more. The country is not like the old federation it used to be, where the centre had all the power to decide what’s best for the country.

The 18th amendment has changed the political balance of power; the concurrent list has been abolished, National Finance Commission (NFC) awards have been announced, and the federation is compensating provinces through the federal divisible pool.

It is only the economy of a country which keeps a nation together – not religion, love or language. The Mohajirs won’t gain new taxes by carving out a land for themselves; the feudals will still control the assemblies and agricultural heartlands of Pakistan and the economy will remain in their hands.

The Pakistani middle-class and lower middle-class (99% of our population) doesn’t have a voice in this economic system. The need of the hour is to change the economy rather than the geography of Sindh.

The call for a separate province might lead to ethnic killings in interior Sindh – a region where a large Mohajir community is living happily with the Sindhi speaking community. I, myself, am a testimony to this good relationship. Most people have been living here after migrating from India in 1947. A second migration inside Pakistan would only lead to excessive bloodshed.

It should also be noted that the major representatives of the Mohajir community, the MQM, is against the idea of any territorial redistribution of Sindh.

A province can only be made if the provincial assembly of Sindh accepts a resolution on the creation of a new province. The MQM has never filed in a resolution, signalling it will never support territorial redistribution.

Moreover, a unanimous resolution was passed against the disintegration of Sindh. If the third largest political party of Pakistan and the largest party of Karachi, is speaking against the idea of a new province, it can easily be deduced that the idea has no political support.

I think the idea of provincialism might face the same end as Napoleon in George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Most great revolutions end the same ways as that one ended; Hitler spoke for the Deutsches Lebensraum (German’s living space) and conquered Poland, Hungary, Austria, France, and Denmark.

However, in the end, he was killing the common Berliners and ended up breaking Germany into West and East Germany. Lebensraum for Mohajirs will only end up discriminating among themselves.

Summing up, the call for a separate province is more of a divergence tactic rather than an answer to the real problems facing the Pakistani society.

After the 18th amendment, innovative ways should be sought to tilt the balance of power towards Sindh – this will help all the communities, including the Mohajir people.

Ramadan. Why are Mohajirs in Pakistan hated by fellow Muslims? - Yahoo! Answers

In Hyderabad Deccan muslim were minority and it was land locked as well but it was not the case with Bangladesh. No Pakistan was fighting for Kashmir as it was muslim majority state but kolkata was hindu majority. But in full Bengal Muslim were the majority but still there were movement for the unification of both the Bengal.

Shaikh Mujobor Rahman was one of them!!!

He had to declare the 6 point only after the 1965 war when west Pakistanis kept east pakistan defense less, west Pakistan was taking away all the foreign currency and was not doing any development of east Pakistan, there were discrimination in the job, in army bengali recruitment was less and there were many more issues. All these happened due to negligence of the west pakistani elites which they are still doing in Pakistan.

If Kolkata was Hindu majority than it should be remained with india. Lahore on the other hand had many Muslims & also many Muslim build buildings were there. Not to mention Pakistan resolution was passed in Lahore.

Tell me during 65 war did india attacked East part? East part has less defense cuz it was not vulnerable for attacks. Even in West Pakistan most defense was in Kashmir region.

Once upon a time we were same country, so some people do that.

I agree both countries are in different league. May be in future BD will export more garment, IT, Pharmaceuticals, and PK will export more Military wares, and set more heavy industries etc/

East Pakistanis had the problems on themselves... They werent educated enough to try to get in the govt... Even getting basis on a stupid thing as language... Majority of West Pakistanis DID NOT understand Bengali, yet majority of East Pakistanis understood Urdu. Thats why Urdu was made national language Understood?

East Pakistan had higher literacy rate which is still the case of today. Despite they were majority they were discriminated during service and promotion.

I explained you the reasons why that kindda budget was delivered & no East population was not that high, even in 71 East population was just 70million & West had 68million or something.

About article what is special in it? MQM is the largest party in South Sindh & it has always opposed for new province. I beleive New provinces should be made on administrative grounds.

Ever try to go to US or Canada and see it by yourself. It is not the tribal area that any one can do anything. Apart from few Pakistani most of the Pakistani students make friendship with Bangladeshis for educational help. Though muslim students keep good relation with each other.
