Doors open for alliance with MQM, says Qaim - Khaleej Times

Rehan Siddiqui / 30 July 2013

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Monday offered an olive branch to the former ally the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) saying that the doors for an alliance are still open.
Qaim, who is also provincial president of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), told newsmen in Sukkur that the possibility of the MQM becoming a part of the Sindh government cannot be ruled out despite reservations from both parties due to obvious differences.

The chief minister, however, said that the MQM always prefers to be in the governments with any political party that wielded power at the centre or in Sindh.

He was referringt to the recent Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and MQM agreement under which the latter would vote without any strings attached for the ruling party’s presidential candidate Mamnoon Hussain in today’s election.

Previously, the MQM had been part of PML-N, PPP and the eight-year government headed by former military dictator Pervez Musharraf.

The MQM was a part of the PPP-led government from 2008 to 2013, but decided to quit and sit in the opposition during the last few days of the PPP government’s tenure.

Coordination Committee Member Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui, Graduate Forum’s members, Haq Parast legislators, professors, lawyers, doctors, engineers, writers, poets, journalists and people from different walks of life were present on the occasion.
The MQM leader deplored that that although more than 65 years had elapsed since Pakistan came into being the country was still lagging behind developed countries mainly owing to the two per cent effluent class which had been clinging to power was a major hurdle to the educated youths belonging to 98 per cent poor and middle class people.
Engr. Nasir Jamal on this occasion said that the country would not make progress unless educated people play their active role in politics.
Speaking on the occasion, MQM Coordination Committee Member Amin-ul-Haque, said that the Muttahida was the only party that had sent the educated youths to the elected houses of the country and the masses witnessed that they came to their expectations.
In this regard, he mentioned the development works, specifically undertaken in Karachi and Hyderabad and other cities by MQM legislators and attributed it to the outcome of Altaf Hussain’s training.
Referring to the negative propaganda unleashed by some against MQM and its chief Altaf Hussain, the Coordination Committee Member said that all such sinister moves would, Inshallah, fail utterly soon and Mr Hussain’s relations with the masses would be strengthened further, saying that as the fragrance from a flower cannot be separated, Altaf Hussain cannot be separated from the masses.

Staff Report

KARACHI: Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has demanded, through a public survey, to appoint Mustafa Kamal and Kunwar Naveed Jamil as temporary administrators of Karachi and Hyderabad, SAMAA reports.

The PPP’s Sindh Information Minister Sharjil Memon said while replying to MQM’s demand of Kamal and Kunwar’s appointments as temporary administrators that there is no room for such desires in the law.

Earlier yesterday, Altaf Hussain demanded for temporary appointments of Mustafa Kamal and Kunwar Naveed as administrator of Karachi and Hyderabad respectively to tackle rain caused problems in these cities.

The MQM conducted a public survey over party chief’s demand on social web site and MQM’s official web site on Sunday. Public participated in that survey over whelmingly.

* Sattar says his party will support PML-N in Centre and PPP in Sindh

Staff Report

LAHORE: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Farooq Sattar said on Sunday that his party is going to support the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) at the federal level and aims to remain in good coordination with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Sindh.

Sattar has said that his party will support the ruling PML-N on all its good policies. The MQM leader was talking to media at the Lahore airport during his visit to the city on Sunday. He confirmed that the MQM was going to have a new beginning of relations with the PML-N. Answering different queries, Sattar said that his party had supported the PML-N candidate in the presidential election to establish good relations with it, as it is the biggest party
of the country that could resolve problems in Pakistan.

The MQM leader suggested the ruling PML-N should hold consultations with all other political parties and take them into confidence to pull the country out of the crises it faces. Sattar also said that the PML-N should achieve consensus over the national agenda, as it was necessary to take the country forward. He said that in politics options did not end and one cannot close the doors to opponents, as negotiations between political parties are part of democracy.

Talking about the heavy rains in Karachi and failure of the administration to control the situation in the city, the MQM leader said the only reason for such misadministration is the absence of the local government system in the province, saying it was the only system which could avert such crisis at the local level. He was of the view that only the local government system could provide basic needs to the people. Sattar further stated that local bodies system, as a nursery of democracy, should be introduced at local level with necessary powers.

MQM call for holding LB polls immediately - thenews.com.pk

In a press release issued by the MQM Coordination Committee on Sunday, the party has demanded that local bodies elections be held immediately.

“In the absence of the local government system in Sindh, there were no arrangements made to overcome the problems caused by the expected heavy seasonal rainfalls, nor were any effective rain-emergency measures taken,” said the MQM CC.

Rainfall and blockages of rain canals wreaked havoc in Karachi, Hyderabad and many other cities and villages of Sindh. Roads and residential areas are inundated and properties have been destroyed, it adds.

These rain-induced difficulties validate the stance of MQM leader Altaf Hussain that there is an urgent need for the implementation of the local bodies system in Karachi and Sindh, states the release.

The MQM CC demanded that Sindh CM Syed Qaim Ali Shah, keeping in view the problems faced by the common people, should take the sensible decision of holding local bodies election without any further delay.
