proof that MQM didn't support the military government and told musharraf to hold the general elections as soon as possible,
1) Altaf asks army to restore democracy
Altaf asks army to restore democracy By Our Staff Correspondent
LONDON, Oct 12: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has asked the army chief and the its leadership to restore democracy in the country at the earliest. "This (restoration of democracy) is in the interest of the country as well as the army," Mr Hussain told Dawn while commenting on the dismissal of Nawaz Sharif government in Pakistan.
The MQM chief held former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif responsible for the current situation and said that his "autocratic and dictatorial attitude" forced the army to step in. "Nawaz Sharif had left no choice for the army," he added.
He said the foremost task of any government installed in Pakistan should be to hold accountability of all corrupt politicians who have looted the national wealth.
He said the army should move fast towards restoring democracy, adding that the army had been forced to take the action, which was not liked by democracy-loving people like him.

2) The Co-ordination Committee appealed to the Chief Executive General Parvez Musharraf that they expect him to take steps to restore true democracy in Pakistan as soon as possible, so that the people of Pakistan can rid themselves of sham democracy forever and reap the benefits of true democracy.
Karachi, 18 October 1999
3) The Coordination Committee further stated that the Referendum is directly related and addressed to the people and not the political parties of Pakistan. So as a political party, the MQM has decided to leave this matter with the people of Pakistan and now it is for them to decide according to their conscience.
REFERENDUM -- REFERENDUM: PEOPLE OF PAKISTAN TO DECIDE ACCORDING TO THEIR
CONSCIENCE – COORDINATION COMMITTEE
4) MQM WOULD NEITHER PARTICIPATE IN THE COMING LOCAL BODIES ELECTIONS NOR IT WOULD SUPPORT ANY CANDIDATE OR GROUP - MQM COORDINATION COMMITTEE
London - 16 May 2001
The reasons for not participating in the forthcoming Local Bodies Elections are:
<1> The MQM believes that the present Military Government is illegal and unconstitutional. This illegal and unconstitutional Military Government blatantly violated the Constitution of Pakistan and unconstitutionally and illegally took over control of the country. The present unconstitutional and illegal Military Government, therefore, has no right to impose its self-made Local Bodies System over the public and to hold Local Bodies Elections under that system.
While the MQM believes that the present Military Government is unconstitutional and illegal then how could it agree to the Local Bodies System, which is being imposed upon the public by the Government and take part in such Elections?
MQM believes that if the present Military Government would have been sincere in restoring true democracy in the country then instead of providing legal cover for its illegitimate rule through fake Local Bodies Elections, it would have paved the way for the election of a Constituent Assembly on the basis of equality of nations, to formulate a new constitution according to the spirit of the 1940 Pakistan Resolution.
