It looks like MQ-9B is not a lone wolf but an asset that is designed to contribute to naval network-centric operations. Indian navy has to fight while MQ-9B will help it fight by enhancing its situational awareness for ASW and otherwise. This technology will significantly improve network-centric operations capacity and professionalism of Indian navy.

MQ-9B can be shot down but it can also be armed to protect itself. Not foolproof but not exactly sitting duck either.

It depends on how Indian navy will absorb this technology and utilize it in the long run.

India has two of them on lease already, and has flown them for about two years so. From what I see on few defense channels, its supposed to plug gaps between P8I coverage. Given the huge coastline and rising Chinese threat in IOR, these make more sense for Navy (I mean all but are being distributed between three services). More than Pakistan, it will be used on Chinese border I feel.

Afaik PN's primary alternative to the MQ9 is the CH4B currently (albeit limited capabilities) and in future it will likely be Aksungur MPA drone.
