Mousavi Says He Won't Give Up Fight Against Iranian Regime
Iranian Opposition Leader Says the Green Movement Will Not Cease Protests

By GLORIA RIVIERA
LONDON, Feb. 2, 2010

Mir Hossein Mousavi, the opposition leader in Iran, is directly confronting the government and vowing to continue his fight against the regime.

Mousavi, the opposition leader in Iran, is directly confronting the government and vowing to continue his fight against the regime.
"The Green movement will not abandon its peaceful fight," he said in comments published on his Kalameh Web site, "until people's rights are preserved. Peaceful protests are Iranian's right."

In an explicit challenge to the government, Mousavi said that today Iran is worse off than it was during the reign of the Shah.

"Parliament is too weak to perform its tasks, some members are worse than what we had at the Shah's time," he said. "Authoritarians will roll us back to the darker days before the Revolution."

"It is the legitimacy of key players including the Supreme Leader which is being challenged increasingly openly," said Dr. Claire Spencer, an expert on Iran with the British think tank Chatham House. "This is a way of saying the authenticity has been undermined by the recent government and asking what is the legitimacy of the Islamic Republic?"

His comments follow the executions last week of two men, Arash Rahmanipour, 19, and Mohammad-Reza Ali-Zamani, 37. They were arrested in the riots that followed the presidential elections in June. In a final tally many claim was rigged, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won a second term in office. Rahmanipour and Ali-Zamani were sentenced to death on charges of "waging war against God." Iran today announced it would hang nine more men taken into custody on the same charges.

"Stifling the media, filling the prisons and brutally killing people who peacefully demand their rights in the streets indicate the roots of tyranny and dictatorship remain from the monarchist era," Mousavi said on his Web site. "I don't believe the revolution achieved its goals."

His comments come as tensions between the government and thousands of Iranians calling for regime change persist. Both Mousavi and his Mehdi Karroubi, his reformist ally, condemn the hangings and accuse the government of trying to intimidate the opposition.

On February 11 the country will mark the 31st anniversary of the founding of the Islamic Republic. Mousavi and Karroubi are encouraging supporters to attend peaceful rallies that day calling for an end to dictatorship.

"In the past Mr. Mousavi has been cautious about encouraging people because the death toll has been a clear risk for anyone going out, even peaceful demonstrators," said Dr. Spencer.

In December, the streets were filled with protestors during the Shia ritual of Ashura. Eight Iranians were killed, including Mousavi's nephew Seyed Ali Mousavi. Over 1,000 people were arrested.

Some observers say Mousavi's comments suggest he is challenging the government to arrest him. He goes so far as to call for changes to the constitution. Last month, Mousavi said he was not afraid to die for the cause of reform.

A lot of hot air. Read the article carefully. Is Mousavi actually doing anything?

ah so you're going to explain who is Mousavi and what he is doing?
based on articles not sayingn all he said really?

sorry but the analysis of the article shows the ignorance of the writer.

"Some observers say Mousavi's comments suggest he is challenging the government to arrest him."
which observers??? so funny to be able to write so bullshit

People think that the policies of iran will change if mousavi comes to charge. Nothing will change in fact. just a new community, bourgeoisie will take the place of molla elite. thats all :)

Moussavi is a programmed zombie of the Ayatollahs. Mark these words, a real critical opposition figure would have been dismembered a long time ago by the moral police.

it's typically the words of an ignorant what you say :yahoo:

It's not about Mousavi but the green movment. But if you would care to take some information and not read only your propaganda you would die a little bit less stupid.

Here are some facts about Mousavi anyway:
he was near and really appreciated by Khomeiny
he had the same idea that the leader should not get the total power
he is disliked by Khamenei who believed in total power of the leader
during his prime minister position he was living and still living in modest conditions and his policy was that all people would make effort in the effort of war. In this perdio the economy was saved because he was so good in his job . it's what are thinking iranians.

what about the rich people in Iran?
They are not the ones in the streets. The ones in the streets are mostly middle class and law class that they suffer not only their votre are stolent but the disaster of economy.
The riche people are many kinds it cannot be that simple toi say "rich people"'. It is like china that the people near the power take profit of money ;) here sepah is the richest of Iran they took economy power not only military. they own telecom, chamber of commerce places, many ressources companies, the main ones indeed.
as well you have some people near the power , like rafsandjani was the richest in his time. now the family of Ahmadinejad taking more and more positions. Khamenei is terribly rich with his organisation not only for islam donates, the pelerinage, but as well some foreign companies should give 50% benefits to some powerful men in Iran and one of them is Khamenei.
They are as well people who make their own companies often they do business in Dubai or elsewhere .
And like any counteis import companies, intermediaire companies , blck market ...

To have this picture: Mousavi reprensents the rich people ... is so stupid. First check who is rich in Iran :D

???
the moral police? what they have to do with not letting Mousavi to be candidate?
they are the guardians who decide (Jannati never heard about?)

Second: most ayatollahs are against repression in Iran.
An ayatollah is an ayatollah. It means religious man of high position. An ayatollah is not necessary someone in power, in government in Iran.
Sanei, Montazeri? the grand ayatollahs they have any position? ;)

As well oyu should know there is a new kind of ayatollah in Iran since end of Khomeiny time and especially Khamenei: the political ayatollahs. Now first time history of Iran, politics can decide someone can be ayatollahs !!! of course normal way is like university... the professor is getting his position when the professors decide he is able to after a long time of studies.
Now khamenei is not even ayatollah, Mesbah Yazdi never could be ayatollah because from a sect: hojjatieh.

Moussavi is a programmed zombie of the Ayatollahs. Mark these words, a real critical opposition figure would have been dismembered a long time ago by the moral police.

Right. And the CIA didn't pour billions into their little adventure in Iran last June. :cheesy:

That piece of **** is old enough to understand then Iranian domestic and international politics, he hands is filled with the blood of Neda.

Now you decepticons jumped out and tried to dither everything.

Don't think the Chinese are "anti-democratic" - why? You polled a billion and change? In fact, we are waiting for you Greens to show us the way.

We are waiting for the "Persian" model - I am not being entirely facetious. Beyond that, I am personally neutral in your struggles.

There was a time when we shouted our own version of "Marq bar Chin" long before you did - sometime around June, 1989 (and that's only the most recent). But it's hard to convince the old-timers for a "Katastroika" in this day and age, particularly after the "Democratic" Rape of Iraq.

Tell me what you want? You want the PRC to let sanctions fall and fall hard? Convince us and I shall work for you.

sometimes people say Iranians are all the same saying marg bar russia especially
i didn't hear often marg bar china except a few nowadays because of weapons sent to Iran by Chinese

Anyway i agree we should not be ennemies. it is just very upsetting the way it goes.
Really what i want to mean there is that if somewhere in USA they are royalists or even communists being so much anti this or that, anti arabs especially for royalists, anti palestine, anti islam for most of them... they are themselves concerned about their stupidity.
The way of the green is independance . They ask any Iranian from anywhere, really anywhere, to say to journalists what is happening . it is all about information but never it is a contact with any government . Any green leader met a leader from any country.

I thinnk it is a mistake to say USA are behind anything there because they are just kicked off Iran since a long time. What thye do is just sell weapons to some countries they believe it is good to protect themselves against Iran: emirates, saoudis, ...

but if the sepah still using force ... i worry very much seeing it... that people won't be wise anymore and accept any help to stop this dictatorship. being a family of religious and army, i know well sepah. it changed a lot since Khamenei wanted to control everything and the ideas of total leadership came into the place (Mesbah Yazdi) when before Khomeiny clearly said he didn't want any power of army and he didn't want a total power of the leader but an islamic system which keeps in republic system.

about what you said ... the sanctions. We need more words but some acts. for exemple not accept Iran being a member of SCO. Most important if there would a news and word from a leader saying they condemn or care about these people hanged without fair judgment, these people killed in the streets, to condemn the words "all people in the streets are mohareb" .
not only China would win credibility, give a better picture , but inside Iran most Iranians would see it as a fiendly gesture.

Thanks for taking the time. I share some of your sentiment - believe me. I was still in China until a couple of years after Tiananmen.

It was well known that right after the 1989 crackdown where students (a few, but city folks - more than a few) were shot and run over, Japan was one of a very few "Western" nations that "did business" with the PRC.

Even today we are ambivalent about that. And we are so ambivalent that we can't even tell you who this "we" are.

My gut feeling is that the "Greens" are in the same predicament these days, and with whom I greatly sympathize.

But looking back to 1989 and looking at Iran today, even you would have to recognize that at least a part of this mess is "class struggle" in disguise. It's also a struggle between Plutocracy vs (national) socialism (very much the non-Teutonic flavoured and you know what I mean).

I am not saying Najad is doing anything particularly effective (let alone "good") or the upper crusty Greens are not genuinely jeopardized in their ideals, inspirations, and oftentimes personal safety.

One of my pet theories on why Najad relishes talking about the "H"-word is that far from media portrayal, he doesn't "hate" the "Jewish State" - at least not nearly to the same degree as some of the Arabs. Apart from some (geo)political/pseudo-religious calculations to "out-Arab" the Arabs on the Middle-Eastern chessboard, his over-the-top rhetoric is first and foremost designed to humiliate the Persian "elite", with whom I am no strangers to some extent by living here in Canada (surely you know what I mean).

Though I without a doubt sympathize with the Persian diaspora (probably a little more Green although more complex than Green/non-Green), it's very difficult for me personally to pick a side.

Now back to China. Looking back I would have to concede that the peasants and average workers were not backing the students in 1989. That does not seem to be a lie made up by the CCP (yes we know they lie about everything and the kitchen sink).

Moreover, when even someone in the calibre of Solzhenitsyn (not to mention the admirable architect of Glasnost himself - no sarcasm here btw - I admire his courage and conscience) began to express reservation about "Katastroika", and with the recognition of the complicity of amoral "financial capitalism" (as Soros all but self-admitted), and last but not the least - with the ascendancy of neo-cons in Yankee politics, we are forced to be very, very careful these days.

I don't know who you are, and you don't know who I am.

But I wish you all the best.

I think that most would agree that the SCO is not an organization with teeth - or even designed to have any. Few can articulate to you if it has any real purpose in the real world (other than a nefarious aim to keep Uncle and NATO "in check" - against what is anything but clear), let alone how the "purpose" translates into executions.

I can also tell you that my gut feeling is that your real friends lie more to your immediate West (Turkey) and to your immediate East (Pakistan) than you realize.

China, Russia, (and India) are tools. Useful tools I may add. And we do mean you well - but don't wait on any "statements".

For I have been waiting on a "statement" yet myself on my "issues" (saddened chuckle :azn:) ...

I will say no mo.
