You invaded Kashmir in 1947.. which was an INDEPENDENT state at that time. The advance was ONLY halted after India intervened and pushed you back. Then the ceasefire came into effect and the frontline at that time represents the current border (more or less)

Pakistan never got over that and launched an massive invasion in 1965 to capture Kashmir when it sensed India`s weakness due to Nehrus death and the aftermath of the defeat of 1962... but the IA managed to hold off the invasion and managed to counterattack successfully into Pakistan itself! The ceasefire came into effect when Indian troops where at the outskirts of Lahore!

1971: A geopolitical and strategic masterstroke.

1999: Pakistan gambled that India would not take back the positions because of Pakistans newest toys: Nukes.

Well.... we all know how that ended.. We got our land back. We suffered less casualties than Pakistan... We even gave Pakistani soldiers their last honor after your government refused the bodies.

In 47,yes Kashmir was an independent state at that time but you only halted our advance plus we got a big chunk in the process. In 65,yes we were once again "Halted" and you did counter attack but it failed as we both repealed and countered as well(we reached the rann of kutch). In 71 you won but it was because of Bangladesh if they supported us the result would be very different indeed. In 99 that we knew you would strike back but not with nukes, you had an army of 30000 while we had 5000 you still suffered more casualties and wounded and even lost aircrafts, refusing the bodies and not giving full support to the operation was the biggest mistake by the government if it had been continued we might have had Kashmir.
