So for you the Safavid Empire was a "Turkic" Empire?
First of all , paternal family of Safavids are absolutely uncertain. Safavids themselves claimed they were `Seyyid`therefore somehow Arabic (descendants of prophet Muhammed) , some sources claim they were Kurdish , others claim they were indigenous Iranian , some even claim they were Yemeni.
However , maternal side of Shah Ismail (or Sultan Ali) is pretty clear . Shah Ismail is grandson of one of the greatest Turkmen clan leader , Uzun Hasan of Aq Qoyunlu through his mother Halima Begum.
I) Shah Ismail was indeed bilingual , his native languages were Turkish(Azeri) and Persian.
II) In his poetry , Shah Ismail used a Turkish alias (Hatayi) and wrote in both Turkish and Persian . His works made major contribution to Turkish literature (both Turkey and Azerbaijan)
III) During Ottoman-Safavid conflict , Shah Ismail wrote his letters to Sultan Selim of Ottomans in Turkish and he even accused Selim of `not being Turkish`.
IV) Military organisation of Shah Ismail was composed of Kizilbas . The term itself is Turkish , literally meaning `the red heads`. Backbone of Safavid army was always Turkish both ethnically and traditionally .
V) Language used in army , religious affairs and in his court was Turkish .
VI) Shah Ismail rose to power with the support of Turkmen tribes of Iran and Anatolia.
As a man with definite Turkish ancestry , native speaker of Turkish language , writer/poet in Turkish language , using Turkish tribal military organizations , rising to power with Turkish clans , Shah Ismail must be Nigerian
