Most corrupt countries in Asia - India tops the list

The OP is being clever and giving partial information.

Bribery is only one form of corruption.

What an idiotic list...
How come bribery is the definition of corruption?
There are lots of other different parameters to define a corrupt country...
According to transparency international India is the least corrupt in this region & ranks 79 where Pakistan ,Myanmar stand above 100.....

Yo man, take this with Forbes, which has published this list and titled it "Asia's Most Corrupt Countries" (where India is on the top).

I think they haven't even taken into consideration Indian judiciary, which is one of the most corrupt in the world and where almost every hindu fanatic terrorist is being set free.

Before you point that, Pakistan is plagued with corruption too (in fact at one point in time, I guess during Zardari era, it was one of the most corrupt country in the world).

But the silver lining is that society is getting awareness of this being the greatest disease and it is improving with time. As you can see at least bribery has gone down very significantly!

@Crixus
@IndoCarib

Refrain from personal attacks and tell us your opinion about why corruption in India has increased and she is rated the most corrupt country in Asia under Modi?

Wasn't he supposed to finish corruption all together?

Why go with just perceived bribery rate as the full measure of corruption?

You tell me what happens to the rankings when many more parameters are taken into consideration?:

Well now you know better. The gold standard for measuring corruption is the index produced by Transparency International and according to that Pakistan is WAY more corrupt than India as of 2016. Please google if you want to check.

About the Indian judiciary, the have to follow Indian laws, which you may not agree with. They cannot give judgements as per the preferences of random Pakistani posters. By and large Indians have faith in our institutions including the judiciary.

Fortunately for us, the preferences of random Pakistani posters have no influence at all on who we vote for and what laws are enacted by parliament . So you might not like it, but there's not a lot you can do about it. :-)

GOI has got it's priorities straight...
Even though the most visible form of corruption is what occurs at lower levels like paying for services or traffic police etc, These are not the ones that hurts the country the greatest.

Corruption in business, tax evasion, political corruption are th greatest damage dealers. GOI is rightly concentrating on these.

Borrowing the link from @SHAH820.

Forbes has released the list of most corrupt countries in Asia. According to the list, India is the MOST CORRUPT country in Asia. Pakistan gets the 4th rank. Good to see Pakistan improving, still lot of work to do.

But what happened with India? Is it due to Modi?

Here is the list:

1. India: 69% bribery rate

In five of the six public services—schools, hospitals, ID documents, police, and utility services—more than half the respondents have had to pay a bribe. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fight against corruption has made a mark: 53% of the people think he is going it fairly or very well. And it has led to people feeling empowered, as 63% believe ordinary people can make a difference.

2. Vietnam: 65% bribery rate

Vietnamese view corruption as endemic. Of all 16 countries surveyed, people in Vietnam (and Malaysia) were the most negative about the situation in their country. About 60% felt their government is doing a poor job of combatting corruption.

3. Thailand: 41% bribery rate

Thailand has struggled with corruption charges at all levels—even government officials—leading the current ruling military junta to tighten the Anti-Corruption Act in 2015. But the Thai people seem optimistic. Just 14% feel corruption had increased in last 12 months, and nearly 72% think the government is handling the fight against corruption fairly or very well.

4. Pakistan: 40% bribery rate

In Pakistan, about three-fourths of respondents perceive most or all of the police to be corrupt. Of the people who encountered either the police or the courts, nearly 7 in 10 had to pay a bribe. Sadly, people don’t feel things can change—only a third think ordinary people can make a difference.

5. Myanmar: 40% bribery rate

Despite a 2013 Anti-Corruption Law, about half of the respondents believe that most or all police are corrupt, and 40% believe the judiciary is corrupt. But things might be getting better—at least in the eyes of the people. Less than a fourth believe corruption has increased over the last year.

why is bribery a sole proxy for corruption ?

Like father like son.
India IS corrupt, so is their PM:
