No true muslim will build any mosque in the name of anyone other then Allah. One can build a mosque in the name of Allah only, for seeking His pleasure . That should be the "niyat" .After that you can name it like masjid abu bakar, masjid ali or masjid raheel shareef whatever.
This is what i believe and i am not a scholar and not giving any fatwa

ISLAMABAD: The growing popularity of Army Chief General Raheel Sharif seems to have gone beyond street banners and social media praises, as a group of people in Islamabad have earmarked a land to build a mosque in his name.

A local people in Ghori Town Phase-III, belonging to Khokhar clan, have allocated a piece of their ancestral land to construct a mosque ‘Jamia Masjid Gen Raheel Sharif, Madrassa Jamia Darul Amn.’

These people strongly opposed to Imtiaz Ali alias Taji Khokhar, a notorious person said to be involved in various criminal activities.

Safdar Khokhar, who is heading a local group Tehreek-i-Nijat Qabza Mafia, people in the area had decided to name it after the army chief because he is a national hero and working against corruption and land mafias.

A piece of two kanal belonging to Safdar and his family members has been allocated for the mosque. Safdar told that the whole locality would be contributing to establish the mosque and the seminary.

As long as they dont put up a shrine or a monument of him inside the mosque there is no problem in building one after his name! But still reeks of political drama!

Well dear i think you haven't completely understood my point. I was just criticizing the phrase" constructing mosque IN THE NAME OF RAHEEL SHARIF".
All good deeds should be done in the name of Allah for the sake of Allah's pleasure in order to be rewarded in the next world. If some one is constructing a mosque in the name of Allah for the faithful to offer their prayer and name the mosque as raheel sharif mosque there is no problem with it but if some one says that i am constructing mosque "in the name of -----------" then i guess it's wrong.

if they think that by naming it with his name they would be able to carry on lal masjid type activities inside then they are mistaken.

if they wish to have something peaceful then why name it after a general why not keep a simple name.
