More details about Ukraine’s new tactical ballistic missile revealed

Yuzhnoye State Design Office confirmed to Defence Blog’s during the Arms and Security annual exhibition that the company has had some success in development of the new Grom-2 tactical ballistic missile system.

The Grom-2 mobile short-range tactical ballistic missile system is equipped with two short-range ballistic missiles. It is is a solid-propellant missile that has a maximum range 380 km and minimal 50 km.

The Grom-2 will have several different conventional warheads, including cluster and high-explosive.

New tactical missile system will have a new guidance system with a self-contained inertial navigation complex and optical seeker that enables it to hit targets in day and night with a high level of accuracy. It has a target accuracy of 5m to 15m and operates even in fog or low visibility.

The basic version of the missile will carry payload capacity of up to 480 kg of conventional warheads or 54 combat submunitions of 7.5 kg each. The Grom-2 also was designed to overcome air defense systems, a missile can follow an aeroballistic path at altitudes from 11 to 50 km, performing evasive maneuvers in the terminal phase of flight to penetrate missile defense systems.

The transport-erector-launcher (TEL) vehicle based on the new-developed 10×10 chassis carries two tactical ballistic missiles. The TEL is powered by a Deutz diesel engine delivering a power output of 600 hp. Full missile system also includes command vehicle, information preparation vehicle, maintenance and repair vehicle and life support vehicle.

The first test launch of the new tactical missile is scheduled for the second half of 2019.

@Oscar @The Deterrent is there any value in procuring these new Ukrainian SRBMs? I'm not referring to the range in as much as the rocket technology being use in them. Do you reckon it's newer or more advanced than what we're using on the Shaheen.

Grom-2 is similar to Iskander-M. Chinese also have a similar system, M-20. Indians have the Shaurya/K-15.
Pakistan is already working on this technology. Its not a MaRV (coz there is no RV), as the missile never really leaves the atmosphere and 'cruises' at hypersonic velocities at lower altitudes than ballistic missiles. The key is slow-burning, extremely efficient but high-thrust solid motor.

The tech is definitely one of the solutions with the highest probability of countering S-400's TBMD, therefore worth pursuing. However nobody will sell it to us, but we might get 'helped' along the way.

The pre-production missiles would reportedly become available in 2011; two billion more hryvnas were necessary for serial production of the missile, intended for induction into Ukraine's armed forces by 2015. Press sources suggest that the complex would be comparable to the Russian Iskander [NATO designation SS-26 'Stone'] missile with a range of 250-300 km, and Ukraine intends to market it for export. One report, however, questioned whether Ukraine has the "political will" to sell the tactical ballistic missile to countries classified by the U.S. as "rogue states." Thus, the report concluded, Ukraine's only customer might be Pakistan and the few states, whose air defense markets remain to be conquered by Russia. A 26 December 2008 report quoted Ukrainian parliamentarian Anatolyi Hrytsenko as saying that the proposed draft of Ukraine's 2009 defense budget lacked funding for the new missile system.
