it's not hard to raise a weapon at somebody and give them orders if they are disobeying you.

the Americans have the legal right to contact the Interior Ministry during the stop.

But if things were my way, somebody from the Ministry should come by car to the place and investigate. All this on-the-phone business is stupid.

That's not the question. What goes through this American's minds is what Osama bin Laden boasted of in 2001: that Muslims will go with the "strong horse", adjusting their themselves and their loyalties to suit:

Everyone should follow the law of the land especially foreigners because they are guests and should act like guests.


Also Pakistan should avoid a civil war at all costs. The last time Pakistan had a civil war was in 1971 and we all know what was the outcome of that. The enemies of Pakistan want Pakistan to enter a civil war so Pakistan can lose some more of her territory like in 1971.


And no one honestly believes that Taliban can take over Pakistan. I think there is a much bigger threat than Taliban, the TTP Taliban is just being used by the main threat as a proxy against Pakistan.

The nation is largely resilient and quite united at this time. I am watching the talk shows, talking to people on the street in Peshawar and Lahore...was in Pindi recently during and just after the terrorist attack at P.L. masjid.

Pakistanis have exhibited time and time again that when confronted with crises; when things hit rock bottom --we are united as ever.

The chance of civil war is close to zero, in my opinion.

The people of all Provinces and faiths rely on eachother for livelihood and survival.

71 was a costly lesson; a blunder of the administration and its ineffective policies. We should learn from the past, and apply it for the future. It also is an example of the intentions india has had towards us --and the reason why we must always keep a watchful eye over them and their treachery. We have a bad habit of repeating history, though now things are changing completely.



amidst the dust and sadness, this is a very educational and enlightening time for Pakistan. It will ONLY make us stronger than ever. It's a difficult and sad time, but also a good time for introspection; new ideas; new approaches.


to get back on topic, these "diplomats" should be expelled. The 'government' should register strong protest with US Embassy, and warn that any breaking of regulations and local laws could have detrimental impact on the degree to which we cooperate with them.

if the people go on the streets the way they did during "lawyers movement" -- then they can do the same and demand mid-term elections. That would be most decent and democratic thing to do.

One thing needs to be clarified is whether they are carriying arms without permission or special permission is granted to them.
