Well, to be honest the Mongols were quite powerful, they ruled from China to middle East to eastern Europe and yes Russia (I think the only country to have conquered/ruled Russia. ). So they were quite a formidable adversary. They would have invaded/conquered Japan as well if not for the fact that they were unlucky heavy storm waves saved Japan and destroyed all their battle ships. The Japanese were simply lucky God saved them, its from this battle/failed invasion that the word kamikaze, or "divine wind", came about from the Japanese (in this instance in reference to the storms faced by the Mongolian fleet). They were brutal (as always) in their invasion of few close Japanese islands they succeeded ro capture though, like piercing holes in women's hand and hanging them on boats. Yes the Yuan dynasty under khan was very brutal, Hitler got nothing on them
